With 100,000+ active communities and approximately 130 million daily active unique visitors, Reddit is one of the internet's largest sources of information. **Role Overview** We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to help build the next version of our media infrastructure. You will define technical components for ingesting, processing, storing, and delivering video and audio content at Reddit, tackling complex challenges to support our media product strategy and deliver high-quality experiences globally. **Key Responsibilities** • Work cross-functionally with product, design, and engineering to execute on strategy and build novel products • Contribute to full development cycle: technical design, development, testing, experimentation, analysis, and launch • Participate with a team of thoughtful, fast-moving engineers; mentor junior team members • Balance speed with quality while building brand-new products • Collaborate with client and platform engineers to improve media performance globally **Required Qualifications** • BS in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience • 3+ years in large-scale distributed systems • 5+ years professional software development (Go, Python, Ruby, Java, C++) • Experience with GraphQL, REST, HTTP, gRPC, Thrift; ability to design maintainable APIs • Experience with distributed caching and large-scale data storage (Redis) • Familiarity with image processing/delivery technologies • Familiarity with HLS, MPEG-DASH, MP4, and video compression standards (H.264, H.265, VP9, AV1) • Strong organizational and communication skills; effective in remote environments **What Sets You Apart** • Curiosity about video compression advancements and industry trends • Understanding of video quality metrics (VMAF, PSNR) • Hands-on expertise with FFMPEG, GPAC, and media frameworks • Client-side media technology experience • Strong SQL data analysis skills **Compensation & Benefits** **Base Salary:** $190,000 – $267,000 USD • Comprehensive healthcare and income replacement programs • 401(k) with employer match • Global benefits (workspace, professional development, caregiving support) • Family planning and gender-affirming care • Mental health and coaching benefits • Flexible vacation and paid volunteer time off • Generous paid parental leave • Equity in the form of restricted stock units *Reddit is an equal opportunity employer committed to building a diverse workforce.*
