**Embedded Software Engineer I** **About the Role** Alarm.com is seeking a talented embedded software engineer for the Device Engineering team to help define the future of IoT for residential and commercial properties. You'll create and integrate devices that connect with our robust cloud using next-gen communication stacks, working alongside talented engineers in an agile, fast-paced environment. **Required Skills** • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience) • 0-2 years professional experience (internships, co-ops, research, capstone, or personal projects welcome) • Proficiency in C and/or C++ • Proficiency in Linux and command line • Exposure to microcontrollers or single-board computers (STM32, ESP32, Arduino, Raspberry Pi, BeagleBone) • Understanding of hardware peripherals (UART, SPI, I2C, ADC) • Foundational electronics knowledge and ability to read circuit schematics • Familiarity with Git version control • Strong problem-solving skills and eagerness to learn • Clear communication and collaboration abilities **Preferred Skills** • C++ in bare-metal and RTOS environments (FreeRTOS, Zephyr, ThreadX) • Linux systems knowledge (threading, processes, kernel modules) • Cross-compilation and build frameworks (Yocto, Buildroot, OpenWRT) • Security standards (TLS/SSL, ECDSA, AES256, SHA256) • Video pipeline, image processing, or streaming protocols (RTSP, H.264/H.265) • AI model deployment on embedded devices **Key Responsibilities** • Develop and maintain embedded Linux applications using C/C++ • Implement, test, and debug features on real hardware • Support device bring-up and validation • Contribute to cloud-connected features • Participate in code reviews and write unit tests • Collaborate effectively across teams **Why Join Alarm.com** • Work with outstanding engineers • Make immediate impact with real responsibility • Gain diverse, well-rounded experience • Strong community and collaborative culture • 4 days/week in-office work **Compensation & Benefits** **Base Salary:** $90,000 – $100,000 USD Comprehensive benefits include medical plans with company subsidies, HSA contributions, 401(k) matching, paid vacation (increases with tenure), paid holidays, wellness time, paid parental leave, disability and life insurance. **Note:** No sponsorship available for employment authorization at this time.
