**Senior Software Engineer (Backend), Communities** **About the Role** Own the backend systems powering social engagement features (Announcements, Forums, Polls, Roles & Permissions) for millions of players and creators on Roblox. Build and scale infrastructure for fast, safe, and reliable in-experience and on-platform communication. **What You'll Do** • Shape backend engineering culture across the Communities team • Lead cross-functional technical initiatives with product, design, and engineering teams • Take end-to-end ownership from technical planning through launch and iteration • Stay hands-on in the codebase with active development and code review • Design empowering systems for creator and player engagement • Champion exploration of new technologies with a safety-first mindset **What You Have** • 8+ years of backend software engineering with large-scale production systems • Strong distributed systems fundamentals and high-throughput architecture experience • Deep proficiency in server-side languages (C#, Java, C++, etc.) • Ability to author technical specs and influence architectural decisions at scale • Track record of broad system architecture from requirements through production • Strong fundamentals: code quality, testing, observability, incident response **Who You Are** • Kind and respectful; you help others succeed • Product-opinionated and proactive about shaping roadmaps • Hands-on—you write and review code regularly • An AI advocate pushing boundaries of AI-assisted development • Continuously growing and holding yourself to high standards **Compensation & Location** San Mateo, CA | $243,290–$295,250 USD annually Onsite: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday (Monday & Friday optional) Equity and benefits eligible.
