With teams in Denver, San Francisco, and New York, we support 500,000+ small businesses nationwide. **About the Role** Lead Gusto's AI Dev Tools platform end-to-end—from product strategy (agent autonomy & security) to infrastructure (CI systems, sandboxing, vendor contracts) to team building. You'll own agentic coding environments, automated AI code review, and the security infrastructure underneath both. **Day-to-Day Responsibilities** • Own the agentic coding roadmap (interactive/autonomous modes, entry points, orchestration) • Lead agentic code review strategy—balancing accuracy, merge speed, and inference cost • Set security & risk posture for autonomous agents (sandboxing, permissions, blast-radius containment) • Establish and enforce AI infrastructure spend guardrails for your team • Lead and grow a team of senior engineers through ambiguous, fast-moving problems • Partner strategically with engineering leadership on AI-native development direction **What We're Looking For** • 8+ years engineering people leadership managing senior engineers through ambiguous technical problems • Daily power user of Claude Code, Cursor, or equivalent agentic tools • Experience owning significant vendor/infrastructure contracts through legal close • Comfort making autonomy/risk tradeoffs on AI systems without dedicated security team • Track record leading across multiple problem domains simultaneously • Strong communication with senior/executive stakeholders on strategy • Self-driven mindset in a PE-model environment **Compensation & Location** $240K–$260K (Denver & most remote) | $290K–$305K (San Francisco & New York) Hybrid: 2–3 days/week in office (Denver, SF, or NYC) **Benefits** Competitive base pay, benefits, equity (RSUs).
