About this role

**Software Engineer II — Remote-First (Travel ~5%)** **Opportunity Overview** Join our Engineering team as a Software Engineer II. You’ll independently deliver story-sized work end-to-end—decomposing problems, coordinating dependencies, and shipping reliable software with minimal oversight. You’ll partner with your squad, Product, and QA to build systems healthcare practitioners rely on daily. This is a remote-first role that may require travel to **Boston, MA** for new hire onboarding and occasional in-person team meetings and company events. --- **What you’ll do** - Own story-level work independently—decompose stories into tasks, implement across the full stack (**Java/Groovy backend**, **React/TypeScript frontend**, **MongoDB**, **Kafka**), and lead release/support for your changes - Design and ship features with strong quality discipline (tests, accurate estimates, confirm priorities with your team) - Write short design notes for non-trivial work, articulating tradeoffs before committing - Debug and resolve production issues in your owned area using logs, metrics, and traces - Identify and ship small platform/process enhancements that improve developer experience, code quality, or operational reliability - Provide high-signal code reviews that catch issues and help teammates grow - Support onboarding of new team members and mentor interns/new hires on bounded, well-scoped tasks - Coordinate across tasks and dependencies within your stories with PM, QA, and adjacent engineers to resolve blockers and close issues --- **What you’ll need** - **2+ years** of professional software engineering experience demonstrating independent delivery and increasing ownership - Backend experience with **Java or Groovy**, including writing/maintaining production services - Web application experience with **React, JavaScript, and TypeScript** - Hands-on database experience (e.g., **MongoDB** or similar NoSQL), including basic schema design and query writing - Ability to independently own story-sized work (decompose → implement → test → ship without daily direction) - Working-level familiarity with event-driven systems/messaging (**Kafka**, RabbitMQ, or similar) - Proficiency with **Git**, automated testing, and **CI/CD** pipelines - Ability to produce accurate effort estimates and proactively communicate status, risks, and blockers - Strong code review skills (give and receive feedback constructively) - Bachelor’s degree in CS/Software Engineering or equivalent practical experience --- **Nice-to-haves** - Experience in healthcare or life sciences - Hands-on experience with test frameworks such as **Cypress, Playwright, JUnit, or Jest** - Familiarity with **AWS** and basic infrastructure concepts - Experience supporting production systems (incident response, monitoring) - Experience writing design documents/technical specs - Familiarity with feature flag systems and progressive rollout strategies --- **Pay & Perks** - 💻 Fully remote opportunity with about **5% travel** - 🩺 Medical, dental, vision, life, disability insurance, and Employee Assistance Program - 📈 **401K** with company match; flexible spending and health savings account - 🏝️ Flex Time Off + company holidays - 👶 Up to **14 weeks** paid parental leave - 🐶 Pet insurance - **Salary range:** **$107,000–$130,000 annually** (plus benefits including health insurance, 401k, and bonus) --- **Interview Process** - Preliminary phone screening with Talent Acquisition - Meet your Hiring M
