**Software Engineer 3, Networking & Observability** Join the MongoDB Networking & Observability team and help build the core of a distributed database. Our team focuses on creating and enhancing components that facilitate communication between distributed processes and make those processes—and their communication—easily observable. **What you’ll work on** - Improve MongoDB networking - Enhance efficiency of resource utilization - Build low-overhead observability features - Improve connection handling and explore new networking architectures - Integrate OpenTelemetry and further enhance observability using open observability frameworks **Team & location** - Engineers located in New York City and fully remote engineers - Role can be based out of the New York City office or remotely within the United States and Canada **Candidate profile** - 3+ years of experience building distributed systems - Passion for delivering and deploying with cross-team stakeholders - Strong computer science fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, software design/architecture) - Hands-on production-level coding experience; **C++ is required** - Interest in networking, observability, and how computer architecture/internals impact availability of SaaS - Strong verbal and written communication skills and motivation to collaborate **Position expectations** - Understand and improve the current MongoDB networking and observability codebase - Lead medium-sized projects across technical design to delivery - Collaborate across the project lifecycle (ideation, requirements, design, execution, delivery) - Own MongoDB’s leadership principles and exemplify them in your work - Continue learning and stay curious in growing your career **Success measures** - **1 month:** Fix a few bugs in a minor version of the latest release series - **3 months:** Contribute to a project slated for the next major version - **6 months:** Take on primary code review responsibilities and help review designs for new features - **12 months:** Make significant contributions to development of new major features **About MongoDB** MongoDB is built for change—empowering customers and teams to innovate at the speed of the market.
