**Staff Software Engineer, Platform Portability** **About Anthropic** Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems—safe and beneficial for users and society. **About the role** Anthropic trains and serves Claude across multiple cloud providers and accelerator platforms. The Platform Portability team builds the abstractions, tooling, and deployment infrastructure that let teams operate across clouds without needing to become experts in each one. As a Platform Portability engineer, you’ll design and build systems to: - Bring up new capacity - Ship the platform to cloud provider platforms & marketplaces - Move workloads between providers with confidence You’ll collaborate with cloud partners and internal Compute, Inference, and Security teams so that “which cloud is this running on?” is rarely (if ever) something other engineers need to worry about. **What you’ll do** You’ll support two main workstreams: 1) **Portable infrastructure** - Build provider-agnostic abstractions for storage, messaging, and connectivity at frontier inference scale - Create tooling that lets internal teams provision, configure, and operate services across clouds through a consistent interface - Identify and eliminate provider-specific assumptions in the codebase and prevent new ones from creeping in 2) **Claude on partner clouds** - Own end-to-end delivery for shipping Claude onto third-party cloud platforms (build, release, validation) - Work with engineering teams at cloud partners to land needed features, debug platform issues, and influence roadmaps - Deepen native integrations while keeping the platform consistent across providers Across both workstreams, you’ll also: - Review designs with multi-cloud implications - Mentor engineers on multi-cloud patterns - Align stakeholders through clear writing and communication - Participate in on-call, and design postmortems, runbooks, and incident response **You might be a good fit if you:** - Have 8+ years of experience building and operating production distributed systems - Own large-scale infrastructure and lead ambiguous, cross-team projects from design through production - Run the same production workload across multiple cloud providers (including migration/abstraction work) - Understand differences in cloud IAM and networking primitives (e.g., VPC peering, private connectivity, service mesh) - Write production code in at least one general-purpose language (Python, Go, Rust, etc.) - Work confidently with Kubernetes and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Pulumi) - Understand ML infrastructure and supporting interconnects - Have shipped software through hyperscaler marketplaces or managed-model platforms - Have background in security, compliance, or data residency for regulated/sovereign environments - Care about the societal impacts of your work and Anthropic’s mission **Compensation** - **Annual Salary:** $405,000 — $485,000 USD **Logistics** - **Minimum education:** Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent combination of education/training/experience) - **Location-based hybrid policy:** Expect to be in one of the offices at least 25% of the time (some roles may require more) - **Visa sponsorship:** Yes—Anthropic makes reasonable efforts to sponsor visas when possible - **Application deadline:** None (rolling review) - **Location preference:** NY, SEA, SF, or Bay Area (based on current team location) **Safety note** Anthropic recruiters only contact candidates from **@anth
