Building at Webflow requires grit: we move fast without sacrificing craft or quality. **About the role** We’re looking for a **Senior Staff Software Engineer** to help lead the technical future of **Convert**—our suite of products that give marketing and growth teams the tools to experiment, personalize, and drive real revenue from their web presence. **Location / Employment** - **Remote-first** (United States; **BC & ON**, Canada) - **Full-time** - **Permanent** - **Exempt** **Compensation & bonus** - Cash compensation is tailored to geographic markets via pay zones. - This role is also eligible for Webflow’s **company-wide bonus program** (target amounts are a percentage of base salary and vary by career level). - Please confirm the pay zone for your specific location with your recruiter. **Application info** - **Application deadline:** accepted on an ongoing basis until the position is closed and filled - **Posting:** new position - **Reporting to:** Director, Engineering **What you’ll do** - Set the **long-term technical vision and architecture** for backend systems powering experimentation, personalization, analytics, and conversion optimization. - Architect and evolve **high-throughput distributed systems and APIs** ingesting, processing, and serving large volumes of visitor and event data with **low latency, high availability, and strong consistency** where it matters. - Lead foundational platform investments and **data infrastructure** that unlock new product capabilities for years to come. - Partner with **data scientists, ML engineers, and product engineers** to productionize statistical and AI/ML capabilities into reliable, real-time backend infrastructure. - Lead complex, multi-team, multi-quarter initiatives end-to-end (problem framing → strategy → implementation → launch → long-term operational ownership). - Influence the engineering roadmap and technical strategy across the **Convert pillar** and partner pillars—identify highest-leverage investments and align teams. - Raise the engineering bar through **architecture review, technical standards, observability, operational excellence**, and tooling that supports long-term quality. - Mentor and grow staff and senior engineers, multiplying impact through people and technical culture. - Stay current with trends in distributed systems, experimentation platforms, real-time data, and AI/ML infrastructure—proactively identify opportunities to advance Webflow’s backend platform. **About you** **Requirements** - **BS/BA** or relevant experience **You’ll thrive if you have** - **12+ years** of software engineering experience, including extensive expertise architecting and operating backend/distributed systems at significant scale. - Strong foundation across multiple languages (e.g., **Python, Java, Go**) with deep fluency in modern frameworks, distributed systems patterns, and large-scale system design. - Experience designing/building/operating **high-throughput, data-intensive distributed systems** in production—scalability, fault tolerance, consistency tradeoffs, observability, and performance optimization. - Demonstrated technical leadership across ambiguous, cross-pillar initiatives—impacting
