Our WebOps platform helps thousands of developers and marketers build, iterate, and scale WordPress, Drupal, and Next.js sites. **The Role** Pantheon is looking for an experienced **Engineering Manager** to grow **account management and identity services** to the next level. In an evolving developer ecosystem, the team must support both traditional user access patterns and **AI agents** as primary use cases. We’re seeking a **hands-on people manager** with experience building **full-stack, security-focused services**. You’ll thrive as a **player-coach**, knowing when to make technical decisions and when to delegate. You’re also an **AI advocate** with the foundational knowledge to dive deep. **What You’ll Do** - Drive frontend and backend excellence across the team’s services, maintaining high reliability for customers and engineers - Architect backend systems using modern design patterns and technologies - Partner across Product, Security, UX, and Design to deliver a technical roadmap aligned to customer needs - Bring industry best practices to the team (agentic tooling, open source, and vendor evaluations) - Apply a security mindset to everything you build, keeping customer safety front of mind - Use data and retrospectives to improve team productivity and well-being - Set a high performance bar based on roadmap success, technical excellence, and individual growth - Hire, coach, and grow engineers with hands-on guidance and a culture of ownership and knowledge sharing - Mentor senior engineers by delegating leadership responsibilities and enabling stretch growth - Navigate hard conversations with empathy and authenticity; treat failures as learning moments **What You’ll Bring to the Table** - **8+ years** of software development experience, including strong individual contributor fundamentals - **3+ years** of direct people management experience (leading teams, mentoring engineers, or tech-lead responsibilities with people ownership) - Track record launching and operating full-stack, production-scale projects with stringent SLOs - Deep knowledge of **identity access management** and developer-focused security products - Proficiency in **Go, Python, or a similar language** to review code and engage credibly in technical discussions - Familiarity with cloud-native infrastructure: **GCP** (or equivalent), serverless (Cloud Run / AWS Lambda / Azure Functions), and **Terraform** - AI-native instincts: fluency with AI coding assistants and how they change team workflows **Nice-to-Have (Depth in Some Areas)** - Authorization at scale (e.g., **ReBAC/ABAC**; Zanzibar-style systems like Auth0 FGA, OpenFGA, SpiceDB) - Multi-tenant account modeling (accounts, orgs, workspaces, teams, and role/permission hierarchies) - GraphQL API design (federation and gateway architectures) - Search/indexing (e.g., Elasticsearch) and event-driven pipelines (e.g., Pub/Sub) - Notification services (in-product, webhooks, SMS, email, and third-party integrations) - Decommissioning legacy systems and incremental migrations without customer disruption - Vendor evaluation and build-vs-buy analysis (notifications, AI-powered support) - Developer-facing su
