We operate in small, autonomous teams, build on a modern and evolving stack, and deploy frequently to deliver value to the business as fast as possible. --- ## About the Opportunity - Looking for a senior engineer whose center of gravity is the front end, but who follows the problem wherever it goes (API, data model, third-party integration, build pipeline). - We care more about how you think than which frameworks are on your resume. The stack runs on Shopify today, and parts of it won’t tomorrow. - This is a self-starter role: endlessly curious, genuinely ambitious, and humble enough to be trusted with real influence. - Lead projects end to end—partner with product and design, collaborate on approach, make architectural calls, ship, and then review what the numbers say. - Senior individual contributor role (lead projects, but no people management or org-wide technical strategy ownership). You’ll be in the code. --- ## What You’ll Own - **Project leadership:** Lead front end and full stack initiatives from ambiguous problem statement to shipped, measured outcome. Make architecture calls, sequence work, and manage tradeoffs. - **Product & design partnership:** Work closely with product managers and designers; bring opinions about the experience, not just implementation. - **Craft, performance, and quality:** Own performance, stability, accessibility, and maintainability at the scale Grove runs. - **Ecosystem integration:** Partner across third-party ecosystem (mobile apps, subscription services, analytics, search/discovery, loyalty) to create cohesive experiences. - **AI-assisted development:** Use AI tooling aggressively as a force multiplier while holding the line on quality. - **Design system:** Partner with UX Design to define and scale the design system and UI component library. - **Measurement:** Work with analytics partners to ensure tracking exists to validate outcomes. - **Best practices:** Champion testing, documentation, and workflows the team can build on. --- ## About You - **7+ years** building and operating production web applications, with front end as your strongest area. - Deep expertise in **JavaScript/TypeScript**, at least one modern component framework (React/Vue/Svelte or similar), state management, and performance optimization for consumer-facing apps. - Comfortable across the stack: APIs, data models, integrations, CI, browser, and infrastructure. - Enjoys new technology and can get productive quickly; evaluates tools on merits. - Honest about what you don’t know—can say “I haven’t worked with that” without bluffing. - Leads projects (not just tickets): takes something vague, makes it concrete, brings others along, and ships. - Thinks like a designer/product person: notices confusing flows, pushes back on specs that don’t make sense, and distinguishes meaningful polish. - Works well with others: gives direct feedback kin
