About this role

**Senior Developer Experience Advocate** **About Us** Fivetran’s mission is to make access to data as simple and reliable as electricity—so customer data arrives in warehouses canonical and ready to query, with no engineering or maintenance required. Fivetran and dbt Labs are bringing together two industry-leading companies with a shared mission: helping organizations unlock the full value of their data. Together, we deliver the data infrastructure layer that helps organizations move, transform, and trust their data—from the moment data moves, through every transformation, to the context teams and AI systems rely on. **About the Role** Join the Developer Experience (DX) team at dbt Labs as a **Senior Developer Experience Advocate**. This is a senior, high-impact role for a data engineering generalist who wants to spend their time in public. You’ll execute developer experience and developer relations work across product surfaces such as **dbt State**, **dbt Fusion**, **dbt Wizard**, and the **Fivetran connector SDK**—helping practitioners succeed with our tools and raising thought leadership in open data infrastructure. This is a highly autonomous role: set your own priorities, communicate clearly, and deliver high-quality work with minimal direction. You’ll also have significant internal and external visibility, with leadership protecting your time. *Location:* Full-time, fully remote (United States). Reports to the Director of Community, Developer Experience & AI. **What You’ll Do** - Design and build prototypes, reference implementations, and example repositories that show practitioners how to get real work done with our tools - Create working prototypes that validate product direction and accelerate engineering iteration - Build tooling that removes friction from common analytics engineering workflows - Author technical content for the dbt Developer Blog, guides, and documentation that makes complex concepts actionable - Publish knowledge and best practices on data and analytics engineering to establish yourself as a resource in your product area - Develop enablement resources for internal teams and the dbt Community, and contribute to product launches as a subject matter expert - Represent your product area as a community voice across Community Slack, GitHub, conferences, and public forums - Collect and synthesize community feedback, surface insights to product/engineering, and bring the practitioner perspective into product design reviews - Identify and flag sharp edges, regressions, or gaps in the developer experience - Maintain and triage relevant open source repositories and community projects, contributing code and design reviews with an eye toward developer ergonomics **Skills We’re Looking For** - 5+ years in data engineering, analytics engineering, or a closely related field, with strong general knowledge of the data industry and how it’s changing - Hands-on dbt knowledge and practitioner-level fluency - Expert public communication in spoken and written technical contexts (track record of published articles or public-facing content preferred) - Strong data/analytics engineering fundamentals (comfort with **Python** and **SQL**; ability to contribute to open source codebases) - Comfort and familiarity with **AI**, with enthusiasm for adapting AI into your work - Ability to work autonomously as a self-starter with operational rigor to set priorities and communicate them clearly - Strong product sense: translate user ne
