**Principal Mobile Engineer, Cash Line — Upstart** **About Upstart** Upstart’s mission is to radically reduce the cost and complexity of borrowing for all Americans. As an AI lending marketplace, Upstart partners with banks and credit unions to expand access to affordable credit through technology that’s both intelligent and deeply human. **The Team** The Cash Line team builds and scales the mobile experiences that support Cash Line products. This role will strengthen the team’s mobile foundation and help drive a newly approved **Android app launch** on an aggressive timeline. **Role Overview** As the **Principal Mobile Engineer** on the Cash Line team, you’ll be the senior technical owner for mobile work. You’ll primarily operate as a **mobile generalist + React Native specialist**, while bringing the **native Android depth** needed to lead the Android launch this year. After launch, you’ll continue shaping long-term mobile architecture and quality across **React Native** and **native Android**. **How you’ll make an impact** - Serve as the primary mobile engineer and React Native specialist for the Cash Line team, improving quality, scalability, and delivery speed. - Lead Android development and help deliver against the approved Android launch plan this year. - Set technical direction for mobile architecture across React Native and native Android. - Partner with product, design, and engineering stakeholders to translate roadmap priorities into durable mobile solutions. - Raise the bar for engineering excellence through technical leadership, design reviews, mentorship, and pragmatic execution. - After launch, continue as the team’s mobile specialist, supporting the full Cash Line mobile stack. **Minimum Qualifications** - **8+ years** of software engineering experience, including substantial experience building and shipping mobile apps with **React Native** and **TypeScript**. - Strong native Android depth in **Kotlin and/or Java**, including shipping or launching native Android apps in production. - Proven track record leading cross-team mobile initiatives, platform migrations, or new mobile product launches in production. - Experience shipping consumer-facing mobile products at scale with strong attention to performance, reliability, and UX. - Demonstrated technical leadership as a senior individual contributor (architecture ownership, mentorship, and cross-team influence). **Preferred Qualifications** - (Same as Minimum Qualifications) **Position Location** Remote, Burlingame, Columbus, Austin, New York **Time Zone Requirements** This team operates across all U.S. time zones. **Travel Requirements** Regular on-site collaboration sessions: **3 days per quarter** at an Upstart office. Upstart covers travel expenses. **Compensation (Base Salary Range — Anticipated)** - **United States | Remote:** **$195,300 — $270,400 USD** - **Canada | Remote:** **$182,800 — $230,000 USD** Upstart also provides target bonuses, equity compensation, and benefits (medical, dental, vision, and 401k).
