About this role

**Technical Services Engineer - Weekend Shift (Remote | East Coast)** MongoDB Technical Services Engineers use deep technical expertise and exceptional problem-solving/customer service skills to advise customers and resolve complex MongoDB issues across the MongoDB ecosystem—**database server, drivers, cloud, and infrastructure** (including **Atlas** and **Cloud Manager**). --- ## Weekend Schedule Information **Remote role for candidates based on the East Coast.** - **Ramp period (6–9 months):** Mon–Fri, **7:00 AM – 4:00 PM EST** - **Post-ramp:** Sat–Wed, **7:00 AM – 4:00 PM EST** - Includes a **mandatory 1-hour lunch break** (for hand-over from **3:00–4:00 PM**) - **20% uplift** on base salary for the weekend shift - **No on-call requirements** for off days --- ## FedRAMP / US Citizenship Requirement MongoDB supports FedRAMP, which requires that anyone accessing customer data/metadata inside the Authorization Boundary be a **US Citizen on US Soil**. --- ## Coverage Outside Normal Hours (Occasional) Due to the 24/7 nature of support, certain events may require volunteering for coverage outside normal work days/hours (e.g., regional offsites, regional holidays). These are typically announced weeks in advance with a sign-up system. --- ## Cool things you’ll do - Work alongside **MongoDB’s largest customers** to solve complex issues across **architecture, performance, recovery, security**, and more - Serve as an expert on standard methodologies for running MongoDB at scale - Advocate for customer needs and collaborate with **product management and development** teams - Contribute to internal projects, including building support tools for **performance, benchmarking, and diagnostics** - Mentor and ramp new team members - Take initiative in building knowledge of new product lines within the MongoDB ecosystem --- ## What you need We’re looking for self-taught, insatiably curious, multi-faceted candidates. **Must-have areas:** - **Systems engineering** experience (Linux performance, memory management, I/O tuning, configuration, security, networking, clusters, troubleshooting) - Strong understanding of **networking concepts/protocols** (DNS, TCP/IP, SSL/TLS, etc.) - **Storage engineering** experience (NAS, SAN, SSD, multi-pathing, caching) - Experience building/maintaining **mission-critical production database systems** - Ability to read code and basic scripting/coding in one or more languages (e.g., **Java, Python, Ruby, C/C++, C#, JavaScript/node.js, Go**, etc.) - Broad awareness of customer workloads/use cases (performance, availability, scalability) - Ability to analyze issues holistically (application tier → database → storage) - Genuine desire to help people - Ability to think on your feet, stay calm under pressure, and solve problems in real time - Desire/ability to rapidly learn new technical skills - Collaboration mindset (know when to seek help) --- ## Bonus Points - Experience managing large-scale databases (RDBMS/NoSQL) - Experience with authentication systems (LDAP, Kerberos, AD) - Experience using/managing **MongoDB** - Experience with distributed version control systems, especially **git** - Experience with cloud services (AWS, Azure, GCP) - Experience with **Kubernetes** or orchestration systems using vendor-specific Enterprise operators --- ## Special Requirements - **US Citizen** --- ## Success Measures - **In 3 months:** Deep understanding of MongoDB/ecosystem; complete New Hire Training - **In 6 months:**
