Our platform helps organizations collaborate, manage the full content lifecycle, secure critical content, and transform business workflows with enterprise AI. **Team: Microservices Foundation** The Microservices Foundation team designs and scales the high-performance, mission-critical infrastructure that powers Box globally. The team builds and maintains core infrastructure, microservices frameworks, tools, and best practices that enable Box engineers to develop, deploy, and operate microservices at scale. **What you’ll work on (examples of owned services)** - **API Gateway:** Request routing, authentication, and rate limiting for incoming traffic - **Rate Limiter:** Real-time decisions to protect Box from overload and ensure fair resource allocation - **Permissions Services:** Fine-grained, attribute-based access control (ABAC) with context-aware security at microsecond latency - **Unified Events Producer:** High-throughput audit log events powering admin reporting and billing pipelines **Microservices Framework (Monaco)** Monaco is a foundational technology enabling **150+ microservices** at Box, providing consistent standards, simplified dependency management, and strong infrastructure compatibility. Key capabilities include: - Core service functions (annotations, dynamic configuration, unified error handling, filters, listeners) - Code generation & build utilities (Java server stubs + client SDKs from OpenAPI / OAS 3.x; Gradle integration) - Observability & logging (structured logging, metrics, distributed tracing) - Security & permissions (standardized REST API security protocols) - HTTP client & messaging integrations (e.g., GCP Pub/Sub, MQS/JMS) - Database & persistence (Spring Data-inspired framework over Box’s distributed data access layer) --- **What you’ll do** - Lead significant technology initiatives from inception through deployment across multiple architecture layers - Build platforms and services that help application teams focus on product development - Write clear, detailed technical documentation for application teams - Provide expert guidance across architecture levels and mentor other engineers - Participate in and influence domain-wide architectural reviews and decisions - Join the on-call rotation to respond to and triage issues while on-call *(required wording by legal)* --- **Who you are** **Required skills** - B.S.
