About this role

**Software Engineering Manager, Network Security** **About Anthropic** Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems—safe and beneficial for users and society. **About the role** The Network Security team secures Anthropic’s networks across cloud providers and bare-metal AI data centers. You’ll help own and evolve egress/ingress controls, network segmentation, private connectivity between environments, and encryption in transit. The team designs, builds, and maintains these controls—and writes the software that deploys, enforces, and monitors them. Anthropic is rapidly expanding data center sites and cloud regions. As Engineering Manager, you’ll set the team’s charter, practices, and priorities, and partner with infrastructure networking, cluster, and data center teams so security is built into network designs from the start. The goal: **secure-by-default networking** that enables research and product teams to use compute in any environment without slowing them down. **Key responsibilities** - Own the network security roadmap (threat model from management plane through Kubernetes and cloud interconnects), decide what to build, and deliver it - Reason about and drive default-deny ingress/egress, segmentation across research/training/production, private connectivity, and mTLS/service identity across every environment - Ship secure-by-default primitives so new clusters, VPCs, and data center links inherit the right boundaries without security becoming a bottleneck - Partner with networking, cluster, and data center teams at design time so topology/routing/firewall decisions carry security invariants from day one - Build visibility into traffic and boundary drift, including detection for exfiltration paths and automated remediation where safe - Own network security evidence for security goals and compliance (prove the invariants hold) - Hire, grow, and retain senior security software engineers; own career development and team practices as the org scales **Minimum requirements** - 8+ years of front line management experience - Low ego, high empathy; built diverse teams; strong track record retaining and developing people - Experience managing infrastructure/security engineering teams (hiring, developing, managing senior/staff engineers) - Experience growing engineers into staff/lead roles and making difficult personnel decisions when coaching doesn’t work - Ability to keep a team intact and delivering through reorgs/charter changes/leadership turnover - End-to-end ownership of a security or infrastructure domain (multi-year strategy, cross-org delivery, executive-level risk/tradeoff communication) - Scaled teams and systems together through hypergrowth - Hands-on network security engineering experience in cloud and/or on-prem (VPC design, interconnects, private service connectivity, cloud firewall policy, egress control, physical segmentation, management-plane security) - Threat modeling and risk assessment judgment (know which controls reduce risk vs. “diagram-good” controls) - Secured Kubernetes networking at scale, or worked in high-assurance environments where controls must be evidenced **Preferred qualifications** - Built/rebuilt hiring loops and held the bar while adding headcount quickly - Exposure to large-scale distributed training and its network demands - Solved end-to-end networking problems with internal users, cloud account teams, and hardware/colo vendors - Taken infrastructure from z
