You’ve demonstrated the ability to build, deploy, and maintain large-scale, complex applications—and you care more about solutions and customer impact than any specific tool or framework. ## What You Will Work On As a **Senior Software Engineer for Workforce Payments**, you’ll work with the team that builds the core computation layer powering Justworks’ payroll, money movement, and tax calculation products—helping customers confidently and accurately pay their workforce. This is mission-critical work at the heart of our platform’s financial accuracy and compliance. You’ll lead technical decision-making and take initiative to identify projects that support key business goals, including scaling tax and money movement capabilities, improving the integrity of our financial ledger, and building robust platform interfaces for payroll data. ### Key responsibilities - Independently own large-scoped projects from discovery through launch, focused on outcomes and customer impact - Collaborate cross-functionally to solve customer challenges - Improve performance, reliability, and scalability of existing systems - Promote engineering excellence through technical leadership, knowledge-sharing, and mentorship - Add capabilities to high-volume, fault-tolerant processing infrastructure - Enhance testing, monitoring, and continuous deployment infrastructure - Keep extremely sensitive data compartmentalized and secure ## How You Will Do Your Work Success in this role is grounded in competencies like: - **Good judgment**: critical thinking, risk awareness, mitigation strategies, and ownership of outcomes - **Resourcefulness**: a can-do approach to optimize what’s available and improve how work gets done - **Teamwork and communication**: documentation, collaboration, relationship-building, listening, empathy, and influence - **Skills and knowledge**: continuous learning and applying domain knowledge and best practices Justworkers also aligns behaviors to **COGIS**: - **Camaraderie** - **Openness** - **Grit** - **Integrity** - **Simplicity** ## Qualifications - Minimum **7 years** of professional hands-on experience - Mastery of modern server-side languages (**Golang is a plus, not required**) - Proficiency with **SQL** - Proficiency with cloud infrastructure management (**preferably AWS**) - Experience supporting and mentoring other engineers; acting as a “force multiplier” - Experience working closely with designers and product managers ## Technologies Used Golang, Ruby on Rails, JavaScript, MySQL, Kafka, AWS, Git, Memcache, Redis, Elasticsearch, Docker, Terraform, Kubernetes, CircleCI, Datadog ## Compensation & Location The base wage range for this position based in our **New York City Office** is targeted at **$188,000.00 to $242,000.00 per year**.
