**Staff Software Engineer — Payment Solutions** **Opportunity Overview** We’re seeking a **Staff Software Engineer** to join our **Payment Solutions** team. You’ll design, develop, and scale highly available AI healthcare products that support **payment integrity workflows** across providers, payers, and delegated entities. You’ll lead a fast-paced, autonomous, agile team—driving technical excellence at the intersection of **healthcare interoperability** and **modern distributed systems**. **Location / Travel** - **Remote-first** - May require **~5% travel** to **Boston, MA** for new hire onboarding and occasional in-person meetings/events **What you’ll do** - **Technical Leadership:** Lead architecture and system design; mentor junior engineers building scalable SaaS products - **Platform Ownership:** Drive development and enhancement of Cohere’s AI-powered applications/platforms—highly configurable and performance-optimized - **Data & Retrieval Architecture:** Design data/retrieval systems that provide AI agents the right context across diverse healthcare sources - **Hands-On Engineering:** Own high-quality production code; contribute directly, lead releases/deployments, and reduce friction in development and on-call support - **NFR, Security & Compliance:** Ensure designs address non-functional requirements (observability, instrumentation, performance, operational readiness) with security/privacy compliance - **Cross-Functional Collaboration:** Partner with ML/DS, product, and architects to meet business needs - **Agile Development:** Support sprint planning, execution, and retrospectives; improve team efficiency and align with product priorities **What you’ll need** - **12+ years** across the software development lifecycle, progressing to complex, high-impact cloud-native system design - Expertise in **auth/authz**, **secure API design**, **access control**, and **automated testing** - Strong **system design**, **observability**, and **production operations** skills - Fullstack expertise in modern languages, **event-driven systems**, and **CI/CD** (IaC a plus) - Experience designing **data systems/pipelines** for analytical & AI workloads; strong data modeling fundamentals - Track record shaping engineering standards, mentoring, and communicating strategy to technical and non-technical audiences - **AI architectures** (multi-agent, RAG, evaluation frameworks) a plus - **Healthcare / health plan / Payment Integrity** experience a plus; healthcare interoperability standards and clinical ontologies a plus - Bachelor’s degree in CS/Software Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience **Pay & Perks** - **Salary range:** **$185,000–$225,000 annually** (plus benefits including health insurance, 401k, and bonus) - **Fully remote** with ~**5% travel** - Medical, dental, vision, life, disability insurance, and Employee Assistance Program - 401K match; flexible spending and health savings account - Flex Time Off + company holidays - Up to **14 weeks** paid parental leave - Pet insurance **Interview Process** *(subject to change)* 1.
