**Associate Software Engineer - Java (Distributed Systems and Databases)** **About the role** Join New Relic’s Telemetry Data Platform team, which builds the foundation for all products—data ingest, storage, and query. As an engineer working on NRDB, you’ll contribute directly to the proprietary telemetry database technology at the core of the business. The team owns software end-to-end and shares a pager rotation, including occasional on-call responsibilities to respond to system failures—so reliability and performance both matter. **What you’ll do** - Develop new features with a focus on optimizing performance and efficiency - Collaborate to implement scalable solutions and enhance application performance - Identify and act on opportunities to improve the reliability of services **This role requires** - 2+ years of professional experience in distributed SaaS software development - Proficiency in Java, including algorithms and data structures, and building high-throughput software using best practices - A deeper understanding of distributed systems and their core challenges - Experience using the command line to manage, investigate, and fix issues - Experience with databases such as MySQL, Postgres, DynamoDB, Redis, MongoDB, etc. - Familiarity with public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) - Familiarity with Kubernetes or Docker - Strong understanding of Computer Science fundamentals **Bonus points if you have** - Familiarity with networks and load-balancing for low-latency, high-throughput distributed systems - Familiarity with modern observability and alerting patterns - Familiarity with debugging/troubleshooting using tools such as Java Flight Recorder - Experience working in distributed teams and ability to work well asynchronously **Notes** - Visa sponsorship is not available for this position. - Location/Work style: #LI-GK1, #LI-Remote **Pay transparency (estimated base range)** - **$98,000 – $123,000 USD** - Eligible for a corporate bonus plan (final compensation varies by location and experience). **Benefits** Healthcare, dental, vision, parental leave and planning, mental health benefits, 401(k) plan and match, flex time-off, 11 paid holidays, volunteer time-off, and other competitive benefits. **Hiring process / compliance** - Identity and work eligibility verification required. - Criminal background check required due to stewardship of customer data. - New Relic does not accept unsolicited headhunter/agency resumes without a signed agreement. - Some roles may require an export compliance assessment. **Accommodation** If you need a reasonable accommodation during the application/recruiting process, email: **resume@newrelic.com**
