Manager, Corporate Network Engineering
Anthropic · San Francisco, CA
About this role
## About Anthropic Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems—safe and beneficial for users and society. ## About the role The **Corporate Network Engineering** team owns Anthropic’s corporate network: wired, wireless, and edge infrastructure across offices and research facilities worldwide, plus the standards, management systems, and telemetry that let a small team run it. You’ll set the technical direction with your engineers and own final decisions on architecture standards. You’ll review and guide designs, lead vendor and platform decisions, and lead/grow a small team of network engineers. The scope is broad—requiring deep campus and edge networking judgment, and the ability to move from hands-on wiring-closet decisions to budget and planning discussions quickly. You’ll report to the head of IT Engineering and partner closely with Buildouts, AV, Endpoint, Security Engineering (network security/authentication/detections), Physical Security, Workplace/Real Estate/Procurement, and external logistics/integration partners. ## Responsibilities - Lead and grow the Corporate Network Engineering team (hiring, development, performance, planning, prioritization) - Set technical direction and own architecture standards across **edge, campus switching, wireless, segmentation, out-of-band management, and telemetry** - Own reliability and operations: monitoring, incident response, post-incident reviews, on-call/escalation model, change safety, and lifecycle currency - Move the fleet toward **network-as-code** (templated configuration with change control, staged rollouts, drift detection, automation to reduce toil) - Partner with Security Engineering on network authentication, segmentation, and using the network as a detection source - Deliver and upgrade networks for new sites and live migrations with minimal interruption to employees - Own vendor/carrier/integrator relationships and the network hardware budget (evaluations, contracts, lead times, multi-year refresh) ## You may be a good fit if you - Have **10+ years** designing, building, and operating enterprise campus and edge networks (including dozens of sites across regions) - Have **5+ years** leading engineers, including **3+ years** as a people manager - Lead through technical judgment (architecture to protocol behavior to failure modes) - Default to secure design, while making trade-offs painless for users; can explain recommendations to executives and engineers - Have run operations (out-of-band access, monitoring, on-call model, change safety) - Are pragmatic about build/buy/automate; have run vendor evaluations with real stakes; can chase issues to root cause across org boundaries - Communicate clearly with engineers, executives, contractors, and landlords; can drive decisions with strong technical stakeholders - Want real technical ownership with a small team and care about building infrastructure for an organization focused on getting AI right ## Strong candidates may also have - Led corporate networking where offices were added faster than network engineering headcount - Implemented certificate-based network authentication (802.1X/EAP-TLS or equivalent) and identity/device-based segmentation at scale - Shipped network configuration as code and built telemetry pipelines used by security/support - Designed dense wireless for large event spaces and high-occupancy floors - Managed office builds with real estate/construction (including netwo
