About this role

**Agility — Staff Software Engineer, Data Platform** ## About the Role Join the team building the data platform that powers fleet-scale humanoid robotics. As a **Staff Software Engineer** on the **Data Platform** team, you’ll design, develop, and maintain the infrastructure for **ingestion, processing, discovery, serving, and analysis** of massive datasets generated by robots—improving robot performance, operational insights, and scaling cloud-based systems. ## Key Responsibilities - **Data Ingestion:** Design and implement scalable data pipelines for telemetry, logs, and sensor data from the robot fleet and associated cloud software. - **Data Agents:** Develop and maintain ingestion agents running on robot software to ingest high-volume data in **low-connectivity** environments. - **Data Formats:** Maintain and develop data formats/protocols optimized for transmission, storage, and query of recordings, sensor data, and telemetry. - **Observability Systems:** Build and maintain observability using tools like **Fluent Bit** and **OpenTelemetry** for real-time monitoring and analytics. - **Big Data Processing:** Prepare high-volume, high-velocity data for analysis using **Spark**, **Kafka**, or equivalent technologies. - **Cloud Platform:** Build and optimize tools for internal stakeholders for business intelligence and long-horizon fleet analytics/forecasting (e.g., **AWS S3**, **Athena**, **SageMaker**). - **IoT Integration:** Improve data collection and processing pipelines using **IoT** and edge-device experience. ## Required Qualifications - **5+ years** building and scaling cloud-based data platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure). - Proficiency with big data frameworks such as **Spark**, **Kafka**, **Beam**, **Flink**, etc. - Familiarity with OSS data formats like **Parquet**, **Arrow**, **Iceberg** and protocols like **Avro** and **Protobuf**. - Experience with observability tools (e.g., **OpenTelemetry**, **Prometheus**) and implementing metrics, tracing, and logging. - Proficiency in **Java/Scala (JVM)** or **Python**, plus strong understanding of distributed systems and microservices. ## Bonus Qualifications - Experience with **Robotics**, **Autonomous Vehicles**, or other sensor-heavy workloads. - Knowledge of **IoT systems**, **edge computing**, or embedded devices. - Data catalog experience (e.g., **DataHub**, **Amundsen**, **Databricks Unity Catalog**). - Experience with **Databricks**. - Experience with **Kubernetes**. - Experience with **Bazel/Blaze** or other build systems. - Experience with **C++** and/or **Rust**. - Experience with robot data formats (e.g., **mcap**, **ROS**) and data playback/visualization tooling (e.g., **Rerun**). ## Location / Work Model - **Fully remote** role, with the option to work **hybrid** if you’re commutable to **Salem, OR**, **Pittsburgh, PA**, or **Fremont, CA**. - U.S.-based roles; applicants must have current authorization to work in the United States. ## Compensation & Benefits (Highlights) - **Anticipated Base Salary Range:** **$191,000 — $299,000 USD** - 401(k) with **6% company match** - Equity (company stock options) - 100% company-paid medical/dental/vision + disability insurance - Flexible/unlimited PTO (exempt) or paid vacation/sick leave (non-exempt), plus company holidays - Catered lunches/snacks at Salem & Pittsburgh locations - Generous parental leave, professional development/tuitions, relocation assistance (eligible roles) *Agility Robotics does not accept unsolicited referr
