About this role
**Affirm — Staff Software Engineer, Mobile (App Infrastructure)** Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly—giving consumers the flexibility to buy now and pay later without hidden fees or compounding interest. **App Infrastructure** is the team behind Affirm’s shared mobile app infrastructure—the platform every other mobile feature team builds on. We own the app’s shared components: design system, networking, observability, experimentation, CI/CD, app releases, developer tooling, availability/stability, and more. We care about ownership: shipping tools and runbooks other teams actually adopt, writing specs before building, and being the go-to experts for the mobile tech stack. We’re small, technical, and highly collaborative. --- ## What you’ll do - Set technical strategy for your team on a year-long time scale, and help connect it to critical, business-impacting projects. - Collaborate across the product development lifecycle with product management, design, and analytics to ensure technical sustainability, risks, and trade-offs are well understood and managed. - Act as a force-multiplier by defining and advocating for technical solutions and operational processes. - Own team operations and availability by ensuring the right monitoring, triage rotations, playbooks, policies, testing, and alerting are in place to support “keep the lights on” and on-call efforts. - Foster a culture of quality and ownership by setting code review and design standards, and advocating for them beyond your team through writing and tech talks. - Help develop talent through feedback, guidance, and leading by example. --- ## What we look for - 7+ years of experience developing and architecting mobile applications; 4+ using React Native. - Proficiency with JavaScript/TypeScript. - Hands-on experience with React Native and Expo, including authoring or migrating native modules and components. - Experience with complex state management in React apps (Redux Toolkit is a bonus). - Experience performing React Native SDK major updates, and debugging across the JS↔native boundary under the New Architecture. - Stay up-to-date on native OS releases and anticipate how they land in a React Native app. - Experience with mobile testing and observability tooling (e.g., Maestro/Appium, Sentry/Crashlytics, Statsig/LaunchDarkly) and enjoy building tooling other teams actually adopt. - Proficiency with AI-assisted development (e.g., Claude Code or comparable agentic tooling), with good judgment on where agents help, where guardrails are needed, and how to keep the quality bar high. - Proven track record driving teams to execute large projects. - Experience delivering major features/system components or deprecating functionality through a clear technical and execution plan; write high-quality code that others can easily understand and use. - Thrive in ambiguity—comfortable moving from low-level language idioms to the architecture of large systems. - Demonstrated growth and impact by gathering and iterating on feedback from engineering and cross-functional peers. - Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with a global engineering team. - Requires either equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field. --- ## Compensation & location - **Base Pay Grade:** P - **Equity Grade:** 13 - **USA Pacific base pay range (CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT):** $230,000 - $290,000 - **USA Sapphire base pay range (all other U.S. s
