Staff Software Engineer, Education
Anthropic · San Francisco, CA | New York City, NY
About this role
**About Anthropic** Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems—safe and beneficial for users and society. **About the role** Anthropic is seeking a **Senior Full Stack Engineer** to build the technical foundation for how Anthropic educates customers and enterprises at scale—shaping what “AI-native education” means when AI is the delivery mechanism. You’ll define how millions of people experience learning about Claude: how content is served and adapted in real time, how assessments respond to what learners actually understand, and how credentialing verifies genuine competence. You’ll build the infrastructure that makes AI-native education a working system people use every day. You’ll own the technical vision for the AI-driven educational experience, including the platform layer, enterprise readiness features, data architecture, AI-augmented pipelines, integrations, and delivery systems—partnering closely with education collaborators and interfacing with security, infrastructure, and data teams. --- **Responsibilities** - Architect and own an **enterprise-ready education platform** and infrastructure (SSO/authentication, learner data models, content delivery, credentialing, progress tracking) with scale, AI-forward features, and reliability from day one. - Own the technical vision for **AI-driven educational experiences**—decide what to build, extend, or replace as needs evolve. - Build **AI-augmented pipelines** for content generation, real-time adaptation, assessment delivery, and quality assurance. - Design platform capabilities for **new kinds of empowering learning experiences** (adaptive paths, competency-based progression, AI-evaluated skill demonstrations). - Interface with **security, infrastructure, and data** teams to meet organizational standards and integrate cleanly. - Build platform abstractions so non-engineers can **configure, extend, and experiment** without engineering bottlenecks. - Make product-level decisions about how the platform works—shaping the learning experience, not just serving it. --- **You may be a good fit if you have** - **7+ years** of software engineering experience, with demonstrated ability to take a platform from zero to production at scale. - A genuine passion for education and strong judgment about how people learn in an AI-native world. - A strong eye for quality educational content and understanding of the complex systems that produce it. - Full-stack engineering skills, with particular strength in **backend systems** (databases, APIs, authentication, reliability, infrastructure). - Experience building and operating platforms that serve many concurrent users reliably. - Comfort with ambiguity and ownership—translating pedagogical intent into technical architecture. - Experience partnering with security and infrastructure teams while maintaining development velocity. - A working practice of using **AI tools** in your engineering workflows and curiosity about how AI changes educational platforms. --- **Strong candidates may also have** - Experience building or contributing to **learning platforms**, credentialing systems, or educational technology products. - Background in learning science, instructional design, or educational research. - Experience with **SSO/identity** (SAML, OAuth), **badging standards** (Open Badges), or **LTI** integrations. - Familiarity with systems that incorporate **LLM capabilities as core infrastructure**. - Prior work at
