**Machine Learning Engineer, II - 3D Perception** **About the Company** Torc is a leader in autonomous driving since 2007, now part of the Daimler family. We're focused on developing software for automated trucks to transform how the world moves freight. **Meet the Team** Torc's Multi-Modal Perception team develops machine learning systems that enable autonomous trucks to perceive and understand their environment. You'll join a collaborative team focused on advancing Bird's Eye View (BEV) perception capabilities and production machine learning solutions. **What You'll Do** • Design, develop, and improve machine learning models for perception systems • Own model development from data preparation through evaluation and integration • Write production-quality Python and PyTorch code for scalable workflows • Analyze model performance, identify failure modes, and improve robustness • Develop perception models leveraging multi-modal sensor data • Collaborate with software engineers and autonomy teams on system integration • Contribute to training pipelines, data workflows, and experimentation tooling • Participate in model architecture discussions and technical recommendations • Lead small technical initiatives with guidance from senior engineers • Mentor Machine Learning Engineer I team members • Document technical work and design decisions **What You'll Need** • Bachelor's in CS, Robotics, Engineering, ML, or related field with 3+ years industry experience (OR Master's with 1+ years experience) • Experience developing ML models for computer vision, perception, robotics, or autonomous systems • Strong Python and PyTorch skills with production-quality code experience • Experience training and improving deep learning models on large-scale datasets • Experience with image-based and/or 3D perception systems • Understanding of deep learning architectures for perception • Ability to debug model behavior and propose practical improvements • Cross-functional collaboration experience integrating ML into larger systems • Strong problem-solving skills in evolving technical environments **Bonus Points** • Autonomous driving, robotics, or ADAS perception system experience • LiDAR, point cloud processing, sensor fusion, or BEV representation experience • Temporal perception or video-based learning experience • C++, ROS, or robotics software development • Production ML deployment experience • Large-scale dataset and distributed training experience • Perception evaluation frameworks and benchmarking knowledge • ML tooling and infrastructure improvement experience **Work Location** Hybrid in Ann Arbor MI, Blacksburg VA, or Fort Worth TX.
