## Director Engineering ### About the Role Chime is seeking a Director of Engineering to lead the AI & App Experience (AAX) organization, building the next generation of the Chime member experience. AAX owns Jade (Chime's AI-powered financial assistant), AI platform infrastructure, core app experiences, and shared design systems. You'll own multi-quarter strategy for AAX engineering, build and lead a bench of technical leaders, set the technical bar for AI-native product development, and partner with Product, Design, Data Science, and Risk teams. **Salary:** $269,000 - $373,000 base (depending on location, skills, and experience) ### Key Responsibilities • Own multi-quarter engineering strategy across consumer AI, AI Platform, App Journey, and Design Systems • Build and lead a high-caliber leadership team with strong builder mindset • Set technical direction and drive architectural alignment across the organization • Drive AI-native engineering culture and safe LLM-powered feature deployment at scale • Partner with Product, Design, Data Science, and Risk on strategic roadmaps • Represent AAX in cross-functional and executive forums • Cultivate high-performing culture with strong talent development practices • Maintain operational excellence in on-call, monitoring, and incident response ### Required Experience • 10+ years software engineering; 5+ years managing managers or leading multi-team organizations • Track record building and scaling AI/LLM-powered consumer products • Experience hiring, developing, and retaining engineering leaders • Strong technical fundamentals (React Native, Python/Ruby on Rails, GraphQL, distributed systems) • Ability to translate strategy into multi-quarter engineering plans • Excellent executive communication skills • Experience in regulated/high-trust environments (fintech a plus) • AI-native fluency and genuine interest in AI-native practices ### About Chime Chime is a financial technology company empowering millions to achieve financial progress through helpful, easy, and free core banking services.
