**Staff Data Engineer - Data Infrastructure** **About the Role** Discord is seeking a seasoned technical leader to join the Data team as a Staff Data Engineer. You will drive technical vision and strategy for analytical data infrastructure, enabling the transformation and semantic layer that powers clean, tested, well-documented datasets. This role reports to the Director of Data Engineering. **What You'll Be Doing** • Define technical strategy and architectural direction for analytics data infrastructure • Own the design and implementation of data governance programs end to end • Design and build sophisticated data abstractions using SQL, Python, and modern data stack technologies • Develop data quality frameworks, monitoring, anomaly detection, and alerting at massive scale • Drive adoption of consistent data modeling patterns, naming conventions, and metric governance standards • Lead cross-functional technical initiatives and mentor engineers • Navigate ambiguity and make sound technical decisions with incomplete information **What You Should Have** • 7+ years of experience in data and software engineering with focus on curated, consumer-facing datasets • 7+ years designing, developing, and maintaining data infrastructure at scale • Expert-level SQL and strong Python skills with solid CI/CD fundamentals • Proven experience implementing data quality audits, monitoring systems, and automated remediation • Strong business acumen and communication skills • Track record of collaboration with Data Science, Finance, and Product teams **Bonus Points** • Passion for Discord or online communities • Experience with semantic layers or metrics stores • Experience with dbt, BigQuery, or similar tools • Experience defining metric standards across data organizations • Experience with reporting infrastructure subject to external audit or SOX compliance **Compensation** US base salary: $279,000 - $310,000 + equity + benefits **Why Discord?** Discord plays a uniquely important role in the future of gaming.
