We combine powerful analytics with AI to help teams understand how people use their products. ### About the Team The Proactive Insights team is building Mixpanel's AI-first analytics vision. We answer: "What changed, why, and what should I do about it?" by delivering proactive insights and recommendations. **What we're building:** - **Signals**: Causal inference to identify which user behaviors drive business outcomes - **Forecasting**: Time-series modeling projecting KPI trajectories with confidence bands - **Simulation**: Causal impact modeling estimating metric ripple effects - **Cohort Detection**: Automated identification of at-risk user segments ### About the Role As the first Data Scientist embedded in product engineering, you'll champion integrating cutting-edge data science into Mixpanel's products. You'll own the analytical design for Signals, Forecasting, Simulation, and Cohort Detection—ensuring rigorous, trustworthy recommendations that drive customer decisions. ### Key Responsibilities - Own end-to-end analytical design including methodology selection and validation - Design and apply causal inference methods (propensity scoring, regression discontinuity, etc.) - Build time-series forecasting and survival analysis models - Develop clustering approaches for behavioral similarity and cohort detection - Document methodology clearly for engineering implementation - Establish rigor around statistical significance and uncertainty quantification - Communicate findings to Product and Engineering teams ### Required Qualifications - MS/PhD in Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, or equivalent industry experience - 5+ years applying statistical modeling to real-world problems - Hands-on causal inference expertise - Experience with survival analysis and retention modeling - Strong Python proficiency (statsmodels, scikit-learn, pandas) - Time-series forecasting experience - SQL fluency - Strong statistical communication skills ### Bonus Skills - Large-scale behavioral event data experience - Structural equation modeling or causal DAGs - Production codebase experience - Analytics/observability platform background - LLM evaluation and grounding experience ### Compensation **$174,600 - $213,400 USD** (total target compensation) Includes base salary, variable compensation, equity consideration, and benefits (medical, vision, dental).
