We're building a universal autonomy platform enabling self-driving across all roads and vehicle types. **About the Role** We're seeking a Staff Machine Learning Engineer to lead technical initiatives on our Behavior & Planning team. You'll own how the Nuro Driver behaves on the road—prediction, decision making, and planning—turning large-scale driving data into safe, comfortable driving behavior. **Key Responsibilities** • Lead ML initiatives across the autonomy stack from concept to on-road deployment • Design and productionize state-of-the-art models: foundation/world models, LLM/VLM reasoning, reinforcement/imitation learning, generative models, transformer-based prediction and planning • Build behavior models that generalize across new cities, geographies, and vehicle platforms • Partner with Perception, Simulation, ML Infra, and broader teams on holistic autonomy solutions • Own full model lifecycle: data, training, inference, evaluation, and iteration • Mentor engineers and shape technical strategy **Required Qualifications** • 7+ years building and deploying ML systems with track record of leading complex initiatives • M.S. or Ph.D. in CS, AI, ML, Robotics, or equivalent practical experience • Strong ML foundations across model architectures, training, and evaluation • Understanding of full ML development cycle from data collection to deployment • Strong Python (required) and/or C++ programming skills • Demonstrated ability to lead independently with minimal oversight • Excellent cross-functional communication skills **Preferred Qualifications** • Prior autonomous vehicles or robotics experience • Team leadership or mentoring experience • Familiarity with PyTorch, JAX, or TensorFlow • Research contributions in top venues (NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML, CVPR, RSS, CoRL) **Compensation** Base pay range: $235,030–$352,290 (based on experience, qualifications, location, and skills).
