**Flight Software Internship - Spring 2027** **About Varda** Low Earth orbit is open for business. Varda is accelerating the development of commercial space infrastructure, from in-orbit pharmaceutical processing to reliable and economical reentry capsules. Join us to work on mission-critical software across ground systems, flight and embedded software, testing and simulation, and developer infrastructure. **About This Role** Spring internships run January–May (dates flexible based on university schedule). Full-time, on-site in Los Angeles, CA. Must be actively enrolled in an accredited undergraduate or graduate degree program. You'll contribute to software powering Varda's missions, building tools and services for monitoring, commanding, and analyzing spacecraft, strengthening testing and simulation capabilities, and improving reliability for mission-critical operations. **Responsibilities** • Use first-principles reasoning to approach problems and justify design tradeoffs • Build Python and/or C++ tools, services, and libraries for flight and ground systems • Contribute to automation for simulation, hardware-in-the-loop, and scenario-based testing • Debug issues crossing abstraction boundaries (OS, networking, timing, hardware-software interactions) • Collaborate across flight software, embedded systems, mission operations, and test teams **Basic Qualifications** • Proficiency in C++ • Experience with embedded systems or microcontrollers • Understanding of data structures, algorithms, and operating systems • Ability to debug complex software issues and comfort with Linux environments **Preferred Skills** • Systems fundamentals: concurrency, networking, performance, reliability • Real-time embedded development or safety-critical software experience • Project work: robotics, rocketry, capstone projects, open-source contributions • Relevant coursework: Computer Architecture, Operating Systems, Data Structures & Algorithms, Software Engineering **Compensation & Benefits** • **Hourly Rate**: $37.00 • Housing stipend for relocating interns • Commuter benefit for local transportation • Flexible PTO + 12 paid holidays • Health & wellness benefits (subset available to interns) **We encourage applicants from all backgrounds**, including those historically underrepresented in aerospace and software.
