**Data & ML Engineer** **About DEFCON AI** REsilience in the face of disruption. DEFCON AI is an insights company leveraging artificial intelligence, mathematical optimization, data analytics, and software engineering for resilient optimization of complex systems. **About the Role** Build the data and model layer behind an AI-enabled decision-support system in an accredited environment. Work covers ingestion from multiple source systems, record resolution against a shared data model, relevance scoring, and explanation generation. **Key Responsibilities** • **Data Modeling & Record Matching** – Design entity graphs, implement probabilistic matching, deduplication, and provenance tracking • **Scoring & Calibration** – Develop relevance models, own calibration/threshold design, and establish abstention policy • **Retrieval & Generation** – Implement embeddings, vector storage, language model integration, and citation binding • **Pipelines & Source Handling** – Build secure ingestion, validation, lineage capture, and source drift detection • **Engineering Standards** – Document assumptions, instrument telemetry, maintain audit trails, and follow gated release processes **Required Qualifications** • 5+ years in data engineering, ML engineering, or production analytics • Strong Python and SQL with large, imperfect operational data experience • Delivered systems for sustained operational use • Routine AI-assisted development with informed judgment • US Citizenship required • **Active US Secret clearance required** (CAC eligible from start) • Willingness to travel up to 25% **Preferred Qualifications** Active Top Secret clearance • Probabilistic matching experience • Model calibration expertise • RAG in production • AWS Glue, Airflow, dbt, Spark • Federal DevSecOps/RMF experience • Responsible AI practices **What We Offer** • Fully remote, results-based environment • Competitive salary ($150K–$200K), bonus, and equity • 100% employer-paid health insurance (medical, dental, vision) • Unlimited PTO • 14 weeks paid parental leave • Flexible work environment
