**Staff Data Engineer** **About the Role** Join Cribl as a Staff Data Engineer and serve as a technical leader on our Data Engineering team. You'll set direction for systems powering analytics, data science, and operational decision-making across the company. This is a high-leverage, hands-on leadership role operating at the intersection of the modern data stack (Snowflake, SQL, dbt), software and platform engineering (AWS, infrastructure-as-code, orchestration), and AI/agentic workflows. **Key Responsibilities** • Serve as technical lead for the Data Engineering team, owning architecture and design decisions for core data systems • Partner with stakeholders across functions (Data Analysts, SREs, IT Engineers, business teams) • Own and operate self-hosted Prefect orchestration platform, including upgrades and cost optimization • Own Cribl's Snowflake environment as subject-matter expert on data modeling, performance, and cost optimization • Build, operate, and monitor the core data tech stack with logging, alerting, and observability as first-class concerns • Advance the modern data stack, including dbt practice and warehouse cost/performance at scale • Develop cloud-native services and infrastructure on AWS • Advance infrastructure-as-code practice (Terraform or similar) • Partner with Data Engineering manager to set technical direction and shape platform roadmap • Mentor and grow junior and mid-level data engineers • Support data science and agentic initiatives • Contribute to secure, compliance-minded engineering practices **Required Qualifications** • Deep expertise in Snowflake (data modeling, performance tuning, cost management, security/RBAC) • Demonstrated technical leadership experience as tech lead or staff-level engineer • Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills • Track record of mentoring engineers • Strong Python and SQL fundamentals with ELT patterns and data modeling experience • Hands-on experience operating self-hosted orchestration (Prefect preferred) • Hands-on AWS and infrastructure-as-code experience (Terraform or equivalent) • Experience building cloud applications or backend services • Production-grade engineering practices (logging, alerting, versioning, CI/CD) • Fluency with AI-assisted development platforms (Claude Code, etc.) **Compensation & Benefits** Base Salary: $170,000 – $220,000 USD (dependent on location and experience) Benefits include health, dental, vision, short-term disability, life insurance, paid holidays and PTO, fertility treatment benefit, 401(k), and equity. **Remote-first position** | Diversity and inclusion are core values
