We create an environment where motivated individuals tackle unique technical challenges at scale and deliver innovative solutions. **The Role** Based in Chicago, you'll lead a team of software engineers building the leading Debit Card Payments platform in NORAM. Your mission: build the most competitive debit platform in the region—optimized for least-cost routing, engineered for maximum throughput, and trusted by NORAM's largest enterprise merchants. **What You'll Do** • Author Adyen's Debit Card Payments strategy in NORAM, balancing product delivery with platform scalability and resilience • Lead by example and help teammates do their best work • Coach and mentor a diverse team of software engineers with focus on psychological safety and career growth • Foster a high-performing culture built on ownership, collaboration, and continuous learning • Partner with Product Managers to translate business priorities into scalable technical solutions • Guide architectural discussions and champion high engineering standards **Who You Are** • Track record of leading and developing software engineering teams • Strong software engineering background building large-scale, distributed systems in Java or similar backend technologies • Comfortable with architecture reviews, technical mentorship, and code reviews • Experience leading technical discussions and balancing engineering quality with business priorities • Thrive in cross-functional, globally distributed settings • *Highly desirable:* Experience with payment systems or cards payments ecosystem **Minimum Qualifications** • 3+ years managing cross-functional engineering teams • 7+ years in software development in fast-paced tech environments **Location & Work Authorization** Chicago-based, hybrid role. Must be work authorized in the US without need for new visa sponsorship. **Compensation** $180,000 - $243,000 annual base salary *Adyen is an equal opportunity employer.
