**ABOUT BASE** Base is America’s next-generation power company—rebuilding the foundation of modern civilization by deploying a vast network of distributed batteries. We’re transforming today’s fragile, centralized grid into a resilient and abundant system. **ABOUT THE ROLE** As a **Software Engineer on the Factory Software team**, you’ll build the tools Base uses to **purchase, move, manufacture, and deliver batteries** to hundreds of thousands of homes. You’ll work closely with manufacturing engineers, warehouse associates, global supply managers, truck drivers, and quality engineers to create **intuitive, reliable tools** for controlling and understanding material movement. This is for engineers who enjoy working closely with non-software teams, solving messy real-world problems, and thinking deeply about how software can streamline operations. **WHAT YOU’LL DO** - **Set the pace:** Move quickly, make decisions with imperfect information, and take responsibility for outcomes. - **Own critical tools:** Design, build, and operate core services that power the Austin factory—accountable for reliability, performance, and long-term scalability. - **Operate across the stack:** Use cutting-edge AI tools to rapidly iterate on production tools; comfortable moving from business requirements to application logic and infrastructure when needed. - **Work across domains:** Partner with supply chain, inventory, manufacturing, and battery deployment teams to solve problems that don’t fit neatly into software. **WHAT YOU’LL BRING** - Demonstrated ability to build tools that solve real-world problems - High ownership and accountability, with a bias toward action - **2+ years** of professional software development experience, including owning and shipping operational tools - Clear communication and strong opinions; able to drive technical decisions while staying open to new information - Product intuition: think beyond implementation toward user experience, operational impact, and business outcomes - Ability to design systems end-to-end (API design through implementation and operation) with sound engineering judgment **ABOUT THE TEAM** Factory Software builds the systems Base uses to source, buy, receive, track, value, manufacture, and move physical material. You’ll work with supply-chain, warehouse, procurement, and finance partners to understand how work happens and where software needs to change. You’ll help replace legacy ERP workflows with Base-owned systems to reduce duplicate entry, manual reconciliation, and errors—while giving partners data they can trust. **NOTE** Base is a startup, so priorities shift and evolve quickly.
