IT Engineer, Data Center
Fluidstack · Barber Lake, TX
About this role
## About Fluidstack We exist to make humanity more free. Powerful AI will be the biggest lever for human choice—but only if models are aligned with what humanity actually wants. Fluidstack is focused on delivering **10 to 100s of GWs of compute faster than anyone else**, rethinking every layer of the stack. We acquire power, design and build data centers, and operate them—bringing together teams spanning **hardware and software**. ## How We Operate - **Be a barrel:** Full autonomy. Own things end to end; take on scope without being asked. - **Insane urgency:** Move fast and push everything forward. - **Reason from first principles:** Challenge assumptions; no ego—best idea wins. - **Love of the game:** Long hours at high intensity to push the frontier. - **Build something that actually matters:** Spend your time on work that impacts the world. ## The IT Team (What You’ll Work On) - Engineer systems behind one of the world’s largest compute buildouts—everything runs as code, version-controlled and reproducible, so new sites can spin up in minutes. - Solve multi-tenancy and security at speed—cleanly separate teams, sites, and customers running in parallel. - Give every employee the speed needed to reach tens of gigawatts—own internal systems and support that keep a 10x workforce unblocked. ## Role Scope (IT Engineer, Data Center) - Build and run **on-site IT infrastructure** at gigawatt-scale data center campuses (corporate network & Wi‑Fi, badge systems, conference rooms, edge compute) so a new site is operational the day the first team arrives. - Automate provisioning of **endpoints, identity, and access** across a workforce growing 10x—device setup and offboarding as version-controlled code. - Own the **multi-site IT stack** that keeps teams, contractors, and customers cleanly separated and secure; coordinate with security on access controls and network segmentation. - Stand up repeatable **IT deployment runbooks** for each new campus so the tenth site comes online faster and cleaner than the first. - Resolve on-site incidents and unblock field/construction teams directly—closing the gap from reported issue to working system in **hours, not days**. ## What We’re Looking For - Built and run IT infrastructure across multiple physical sites—standing up networks, identity, and endpoint management from scratch. - Automated IT operations with code (scripting, infrastructure-as-code, MDM policy as code). - Owned **identity and access management** (SSO, SCIM, directory services) for a fast-growing organization without access sprawl or offboarding gaps. - Served as the go-to person when systems are down on site; resolved incidents under time pressure. - Designed **multi-tenant or segmented network environments** that keep separate teams/sites/customers secure without slowing them down. - Wrote documentation and runbooks clear enough for the next engineer to stand up a site without needing to ask. - **Bonus:** Data center/industrial site IT experience; hands-on networking at scale (BGP, VLANs, firewalls); Okta/Jamf/Intune administration; security/compliance exposure (SOC 2, ISO 27001). ## Physical Requirements - Work in **non-climate-controlled environments** (construction areas, data halls, electrical/mechanical rooms, outdoor spaces). Conditions may be hot/cold, humid, loud, or dusty. - Lift/carry/push/pull up to **40 lbs**. - Sit/stand/walk/kneel/bend/crouch for long periods, including full shifts on your feet. - Wear required **PPE** (
