Senior DevOps Engineer
Pathai · Boston, MA (Hybrid)
About this role
**Senior DevOps Engineer** **Location**: Remote (US) or Hybrid — Boston, MA (2 days per week in office) PathAI’s mission is to improve patient outcomes with AI-powered pathology. We deploy AI algorithms for histopathology across translational research, pathology labs, and clinical trials—where rigorous science and careful analysis are essential. ## The Opportunity PathAI is hiring its first dedicated **Developer Operations Engineer** to own the systems that help engineers ship: **release automation, CI/CD, build & deployment infrastructure, and developer environments** across our products. This includes **AISight**, our digital pathology platform used by hospitals and labs and deployed in both the cloud and on-premises, as well as software supporting our **biopharma clinical trial services**. Because our clinical software is regulated as a **medical device**, you’ll design automation that makes releases **faster and safer** while meeting quality system requirements. ## What You’ll Do - Own the **release process end to end** for both cloud and on-premises deployments, automating manual steps like **versioning, localization, and zero-downtime (blue-green) cutovers** - Partner with **quality and regulatory teams** to design compliant **release and rollback** processes - Design and maintain **fast, reliable CI/CD pipelines**, using sensible container image build strategies and consistent configuration across repositories; measure and improve delivery performance using **DORA metrics** - Bring all product lines onto a **common release and infrastructure model**, including **zero-downtime deployments**, **repository consolidation**, and faster pipeline feedback - Standardize **deployment tooling, monitoring, and observability** across cloud, on-premises, production, and test environments (including packaging and upgrade paths for customer-hosted installations) - Build the **product performance metrics** used for ongoing regulatory monitoring - Automate **release documentation** required by the quality system for a regulated medical device company - Identify and fix root causes of recurring operational issues, tightening feedback loops between **support and engineering** - Set long-term direction for how every PathAI service is built, deployed, and operated ## Who You Are (Required) - **5+ years** experience in DevOps, platform, build/release, or site reliability engineering - Deep expertise designing and maintaining **CI/CD systems** (e.g., GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, Kargo) - Strong experience with **containers & orchestration** (Docker, Kubernetes) and **infrastructure as code** (Terraform or similar) - Hands-on experience with a major cloud provider (preferably **AWS**) and deploying/supporting software in **customer-hosted on-premises** environments - Proficient in at least one scripting/programming language (e.g., **Python** or **Go**) - Experience implementing **zero-downtime** strategies (blue-green or canary) - Familiarity with monitoring/observability tooling (e.g., **Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog**) - Ability to quickly learn unfamiliar codebases and reason through operational problems in systems you didn’t write - Self-directed: define a roadmap, prioritize your backlog, and communicate progress to engineering leadership ### Preferred - Experience in a regulated environment (FDA, IVDR, ISO 13485, or IEC 62304) - Experience consolidating repositories into a monorepo or standardizing build tooling across many services -
