After record-breaking growth, our platform orchestrates billions of decisions—from the store floor to the distribution center—helping prevent food waste at massive scale. --- ## About the Role As **Senior Engineering Manager for DC Buying**, you’ll lead engineering for Afresh’s AI-powered fresh buying product. DC buyers use it to decide **what to buy, how much to buy, and when**—and every order directly impacts what lands in stores and how much food waste is avoided across the network. You’ll also work directly with customers to ensure what you build supports buyers’ day-to-day work. --- ## What You’ll Do ### Lead engineering - Hire, develop, and retain a senior team of product engineers. - Set the technical bar: review architecture, push back on unnecessary complexity, and be deliberate about tech debt. - Build strong relationships with peer engineering leaders across platform, data, and AI. ### Build the roadmap - Own the DC Buying roadmap with product, design, and science leads. - Balance customer asks, technical investment, and business goals. - Deeply understand the business and what drives key metrics and customer delight. ### Execute effectively - Make clean commitments (internally and with customers) and deliver. - Turn broad goals into scoped plans with sequence, cost, and date. - Keep leadership and partner teams aligned and drive decisions to clarity. - Own reliability, on-call health, and data quality for a product buyers rely on daily. ### Be a great example - Build a culture where engineers and scientists own problems (not tickets). - Bring teams in early with customers, product, and design. - Solve creatively and build innovative product that drives massive customer impact. --- ## What Makes You a Great Fit - **8+ years** in software engineering, including **3+ years managing engineering teams**. - Experience developing, scaling, and supporting **mission-critical** production products. - Strong technical range across multiple domains (front-end, back-end, data pipelines, applied science). - Proven ability to hire, grow, and manage performance—and build ownership culture. - Clear, direct communication with stakeholders, executives, and customers. - Comfort with ambiguity and growth-stage pressure; ability to re-plan quickly without whiplash. - Interest in **AI-native development practices** and keeping your team on the leading edge. --- ## Nice to Have - Supply chain, retail, or grocery experience (especially demand forecasting, replenishment, or inventory optimization). - Shipped forecasting, optimization, or recommendation products operators use daily. - Taken a product from early design partners to enterprise production. - Familiarity with the stack: **Python, TypeScript, React, GraphQL, Databricks, Azure**. --- ## Additional Details - **Sponsorship:** This position is **not eligible** for company sponsorship. - **Salary Band (U.S., USD):** **$203,745 – $275,655** + meaningful early-stage equity + benefits --- ## Why You’ll Love Working at Afresh - Comprehensive health & wellness coverage (medical, dental, vision) + mental health support - Competitive base sala
