**Senior Software Engineer, AI Security** ## Summary / Objectives Tanium is seeking a **Senior Software Engineer** to help build a new **AI Security** solution that enables the world’s largest enterprises to **secure AI agents** and the **endpoints** they run on. This full-stack role emphasizes **backend engineering** and focuses on designing and developing **high-scale, distributed systems** that provide customers **visibility into** and **control over agentic AI** across their environments. ## Essential Job Functions - Design and develop **high-scale, distributed backend systems** for visibility and control of agentic AI across customer environments. - Build services and integrations using **LLM APIs**, **tool-calling frameworks**, and the **Model Context Protocol (MCP)**; design **RAG** and supporting **data pipelines**. - Use AI coding assistants and agent tooling effectively; **review, refactor, and debug** AI-generated code with sound judgment. - Design and develop **robust, scalable, maintainable** software features across the full SDLC. - Architect solutions that balance **performance, reliability, and security**. - Collaborate with **product management, UX, and peer engineers** to define requirements, estimate effort, and deliver on schedule. - Lead **code reviews** and provide constructive technical feedback. - Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve complex defects and **performance bottlenecks** in development and production. - Mentor and support junior/mid-level engineers through knowledge sharing and technical guidance. - Improve engineering processes, tooling, and development practices to increase velocity and code quality. - Partner with **security and infrastructure** teams to ensure alignment with Tanium security and compliance standards. ## Minimum & Preferred Job Qualifications **Minimum** - **8+ years** of professional software engineering experience shipping production-quality software. - Experience designing and implementing **distributed systems** or **large-scale, high-availability** applications. - Experience building and shipping **AI-powered products/agents** at scale (e.g., **LLM integrations** and **tool-calling**). - Hands-on experience building an **MCP server/integration** that ran in production. - Experience building **retrieval-augmented generation (RAG)** and associated data pipelines. - Experience building backend services and enterprise web applications serving large user bases. - Full SDLC experience: requirements, design, implementation, testing, and deployment. **Preferred** - Experience in **cybersecurity**, **SaaS**, or **enterprise** software. - Security foundation (secure design, authentication/authorization, threat modeling). - Familiarity with **AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud**. - Proficiency in one or more modern languages: **Go, C++, Java, Python**, or similar. - Ability to prompt AI coding tools and understand/refactor/debug resulting code. - Strong understanding of design patterns, data structures, and algorithms. - Experience with **Git** and collaborative workflows. - Familiarity with **Docker/Kubernetes**, and **CI/CD** and automated testing frameworks. ## Core Competencies (Tanium) - Initiative and motivation - Excellent oral and written communication - Team player - High ethics and integrity - Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment ## Security & Privacy Roles / Responsibilities - All roles have access to **Tanium Confidential Information** and must meet the highest st
