We’re the world’s largest fully remote workforce, combining the best elements of virtual teams with a support structure that encourages innovation, social interaction, and fun. ### Job Summary As a **Practice Director for Toptal’s Cloud Services practice**, you will lead and develop a team of **solution architects** who design, sell, and deliver **hybrid cloud and DevOps** solutions for clients. You’ll set the technical vision and standards for the practice, shape how solutions go to market, and collaborate across organizational lines to build a world-class architecture practice. This is a **remote position**. **No visa sponsorship or assistance** is provided. Applicants must be **authorized to work in the US** at the time of hire. Resumes and communication must be submitted in **English**. --- ## Responsibilities - **Team Leadership:** Lead, mentor, and grow solution architects; set goals, provide feedback, and build a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and continuous learning. - **Hiring Talent:** Recruit, onboard, and retain top solution architects; ensure the team has the right skills (e.g., hybrid cloud, Kubernetes, Infrastructure-as-Code, CI/CD, SRE, security). - **Architecture Standards:** Define reference architectures, design patterns, and best practices; review solutions for quality, security, scalability, and cost-efficiency. - **Pre-Sales Leadership:** Partner with Sales to assess needs, define solution approaches, shape proposals, and lead key technical conversations. - **Solution Development:** Turn repeatable solutions into scalable offerings (e.g., hybrid cloud architecture/migration, landing zones, container platforms, IaC, CI/CD & DevSecOps, SRE & observability, FinOps). - **Delivery:** Partner with Delivery to ensure designs are implemented successfully; guide engineering through complex decisions and step in on critical engagements. - **Capacity & Performance:** Plan capacity, manage workload/utilization, and track metrics (e.g., pipeline support, win rate, client satisfaction). - **Partnerships:** Build and maintain relationships with cloud/technology partners (AWS, Azure, GCP, VMware/Broadcom, Red Hat, HashiCorp) and keep certifications aligned. - **Thought Leadership:** Stay current on hybrid cloud, platform engineering, and DevOps trends; contribute to marketing content. - **Hands-On Contribution:** Own architecture for strategic accounts and build proofs of concept to set the standard for the team. --- ## Expected Milestones (First Year) - **First Week:** Onboard; meet your team; learn Toptal’s culture, operating model, and industry focus; shadow key teams. - **First Month:** Build relationships across the org; review current demand and existing network talent/engagements; assess team skills and development needs; define growth hypotheses and experiments. - **First 3 Months:** Establish operating model, architecture standards, and pre-sales process; increase client-facing presence; begin impacting revenue growth. - **First 6 Months:** Move from planning to execution; see repeatable solutions and a growing pipeline supported by your team; establish partner relationships and a hiring plan. - **First Year:** Drive material growth; build a fully staffed, high-performing solution architect team recognized for Hybrid Cloud and DevOps expertise. --
