Staff Robotics Software Engineer, CUAS, Omen
Anduril Industries · Costa Mesa, California, United States
About this role
**Staff Robotics Software Engineer — CUAS (Omen)** **About Anduril** Anduril Industries is a defense technology company on a mission to transform U.S. and allied military capabilities with advanced technology. Anduril’s systems are powered by **Lattice OS**, an AI-powered operating system that turns thousands of data streams into a real-time, 3D command and control center. **About the Team / Product** The **Maneuver Dominance** team develops operationally relevant, multi-asset autonomy. **Omen** is Anduril’s hover-to-cruise autonomous air vehicle (AAV), designed to deliver runway-independent maneuvering across defense and civilian domains. Omen is a tail-sitter aircraft with a mass-production contract. **About the Job** Small drones are hard to hit—especially from a moving aircraft. You’ll own **software integration of Omen’s airborne counter-UAS effector payload end to end**, and build the team around it. --- ## What You’ll Do - **Own and lead** the autonomy architecture for Omen’s **cUAS dogfighting mission** end to end (prototype → fielded software): find the target, fly the fight, take the shot. - Collaborate with the **Omen Perception** team on **target tracking and perception**; architect how to combine multiple sensor sources to meet mission objectives. - Design **intercept guidance** and **pursuit planning** to place the aircraft in a firing position against maneuvering targets within vehicle limits. - Work with the **Omen Autonomy** team (who owns core autonomy systems) as they embed autonomy engineers for tactics development. - **Own fire control software**, including ballistic solutions, targeting commands, and the logic that decides when to shoot. - Own the **sensor-to-shot latency budget** and ensure every millisecond is accounted for. - Own software interfaces with the **payload, vehicle, and mission compute** (message definitions, timing, time sync, command authority). - Build simulation to prove engagements before flight; plan and run **flight test campaigns** (including live range events) and lead root-cause work when results differ from prediction. - Take it to the field: **V&V, release/configuration control, sustainment**, and write requirements for SEIT and V&V engineers. --- ## Required Qualifications - **6+ years** building software for robotic or autonomous systems, including at least one system taken from concept to field deployment. - Strong engineering background (ideally **Robotics, CS, Aerospace, or EE**). - Experience leading multidisciplinary software teams, including **hiring**. - Strong **Rust or C++** for real-time/embedded systems, plus **Python** for tools and analysis. - Deep experience in **target tracking and sensor fusion** (state estimation, filtering, data association, track quality on small maneuvering targets). - Experience with **guidance, motion planning, or control** for fast-moving vehicles and understanding latency/bandwidth tradeoffs. - Experience integrating and characterizing **perception sensors** in software. - Experience building **closed-loop simulation** and using flight/field data to close the sim-to-reality gap. - Hands-on **field test** experience (planning/instrumentation through data analysis). - Experience as technical owner of a **safety-critical autonomy** system (requirements, architecture, V&V, release). Familiarity with **US Export regulations** as applied to weapon system software. - Ability to travel ~**25%** (with potential surges for test/demos). - Eligible to
