**Mobile Engineer — Betterment** **About Betterment** Betterment is a leading, technology-driven financial services company offering investing, savings, and retirement solutions for retail investors and investment advisors, plus financial wellness solutions (including a 401(k) for small and medium-sized businesses). We’re headquartered in NYC and offer hybrid NY-based positions (four days/week in-office, with no required office days during the summer and winter holidays). **About the role** Betterment’s Product Engineering teams build the applications customers rely on—from first interaction through every experience after they’re logged in. As a **Mobile Engineer**, you’ll help shape the critical first impression new customers have of Betterment and own medium-sized features end to end (design → implementation), delivering high-quality experiences customers use every day. You’ll work on a mobile application that guides customers through key life events in their financial journey—whether saving to buy a house or planning for retirement. You’ll collaborate with Full Stack Engineers, UX designers, and product managers to build consumer-facing experiences that are sleek, intuitive, and supported by sophisticated advice. **Location & compensation** - **Based out of NYC office** - **Base salary range (NYC): $140,000 – $160,000** - This role may also be eligible for variable compensation (company incentive bonus) **A day in the life** - Own medium-sized features and project milestones end to end (design to release), partnering on planning and following software development best practices - Collaborate with Product & Design to build delightful experiences for saving and investing - Work with Fullstack Engineers to ensure features scale while staying performant and secure - Mentor teammates through code review and unblock others; learn from senior engineers to grow into a trusted reviewer - Maintain efficiency through clean code, rigorous testing, and pragmatic programming - Triage and resolve local/production issues using logs, traces, and metrics; write clear, brief design docs - Use AI coding tools in production work with strong judgment (verify closely; know when to write yourself) - Collaborate in small groups to improve the application - Contribute to open communication and initiative-driven problem solving - Work with a team that’s smart, innovative, energetic, and fun **What we’re looking for** - Experience building with **JavaScript/TypeScript** and **React Native**, plus familiarity with **iOS/Android** platforms (Flutter is a plus) - **GraphQL** experience is a plus - Strong understanding of mobile app architecture and performance; make sound design decisions for owned features - A habit of writing simple, readable, well-tested code with attention to accessibility and performance - Track record of delivering features predictably (balancing scope/complexity/time and proactively communicating changes) - Interest in improving developer experience and the mobile platform via engineering forums - Collaborative mindset across engineering, design, and product - Passion for software engineering, developer experience, and building what doesn’t yet exist - Appreciation for agility and pragmatism - Ability to thrive in a startup-like environment (autonomy + collaboration) **Core values** - **We change lives** - **We set audacious goals** - **We value all perspectives** - **We simplify financial services** **Commitment to your total well-
