About this role

## Engineering Lead, Kernel Reliability ### About Cerebras Cerebras Systems builds the world’s largest AI chip—an architecture designed to deliver industry-leading training and inference speeds (over 10× faster than GPU-based hyperscale cloud inference services). Cerebras works with leading model labs, global enterprises, and AI-native startups, including a recent multi-year partnership with OpenAI to deploy 750MW of scale. ### About The Role We’re looking for a deeply technical, hands-on engineering leader for our **on-field Kernel Reliability** team. You’ll lead a high-performing team to improve the reliability of advanced compute clusters and the underlying **inference, training, and internal production services**. In this role, you’ll set the technical vision while staying close to the code—designing solutions that scale with our rapidly growing production systems and software service offerings. ### Responsibilities - Provide hands-on technical leadership: own the technical vision and roadmap for **kernel-centric reliability** across internal and customer-facing systems. - Partner with **System and Cluster Operations** to reduce downtime after failures via tooling and manual intervention for failure analysis and diagnostics. - Work with the **Debug Team** to enhance debug tools and speed up failure analysis. - Collaborate with **SW teams** to improve the software stack (including **kernels**) for better on-field debugging and failure analysis. - Work with **ASIC and HW architecture** teams to co-design next-generation architectures with reliability and ease of debug in mind. - Lead, mentor, and grow a high-caliber engineering team; foster technical excellence and rapid execution. ### Skills & Qualifications - **6+ years** in software engineering, with **3+ years** leading teams in SW/HW reliability, debugging, diagnostics, failure analysis, or related fields. - Expertise in **parallel and distributed programming** (message passing, multicore, GPU, embedded, etc.), plus strong experience building or using debug/diagnostic tools (debuggers, core dump handling, code sanitizers, etc.). - Experience debugging **distributed and parallel applications** (deadlocks, livelocks, race conditions, etc.). - Deep understanding of computer architectures (instruction pipelining, multithreading, networking, etc.). - Strong background in **monitoring and reliability engineering** (incident response, post-mortems, etc.). - Demonstrated ability to recruit and retain high-performing teams, mentor engineers, and collaborate cross-functionally. ### Why Join Cerebras People who are serious about software make their own hardware. At Cerebras, you’ll help build a breakthrough AI platform beyond GPU constraints, publish/open-source cutting-edge research, and work on one of the fastest AI supercomputers in the world—within a startup environment and a simple, non-corporate culture. ### Apply Apply today and help drive groundbreaking advancements in AI. *Equal Opportunity Employer.* Cerebras is committed to creating an equal and diverse environment.
