**Director of Engineering — Databricks Commercialization & Marketplace (P-1630)** **About the role** Databricks’ Money organization builds the systems that price, contract, rate, and bill every product—at hyperscaler scale across major clouds. You’ll lead the engineering organization that owns the commercial engine end-to-end, setting product and technology strategy for how Databricks makes money and serving as the engineering voice Finance, Product, and GTM leaders rely on for strategic decisions. **What you’ll own** - **Pricing configuration:** SKUs, multipliers, price-change processes, deal desk, discounting - **Orders and contracts:** from negotiated quote to order to signed customer contract - **Subscriptions:** commit, pay-as-you-go, proof-of-concept subscriptions, and how contracts tie to payment methods - **Rating:** applying negotiated price, discounts, and conditional benefits to compute the bill from ingested usage - **Billing:** commit drawdown, invoicing, Month End Close, and related financial processes - **Marketplace:** third-party data and solutions available seamlessly to Databricks customers **The impact you’ll have** - **Set and communicate the vision:** Write the multi-year product/technology strategy toward zero-touch order-to-cash and next-gen billing architecture. - **Own business outcomes across orgs:** Lead cross-functional programs spanning Finance, Product, IT, Accounts, and GTM with clear plans, timelines, quality bars, and escalation. - **Make commercialization a platform capability:** Build reusable building blocks so new pricing models and routes to market ship in weeks, not quarters. - **Treat foundations as seriously as features:** Reliability, correctness, SOX/compliance readiness, security, cost visibility, and operational load at launch-level standards. - **Partner deeply with Business & Finance:** Translate accounting/close/compliance requirements into engineering design; improve Month End Close and audit readiness. - **Build a team of leaders:** Grow from direct engineer leadership to strong engineering managers and tech-lead managers with clear subteams and named owners. - **Hire like a founder:** Act as hiring owner for the Money Bellevue site and help raise Databricks’ engineering hiring bar. **What we’re looking for** - **12+ years** software engineering, including **6+ years** leading engineering orgs and managing managers (billing/payments/commerce/fintech or similar preferred) - Track record delivering **large, revenue-critical, cross-functional** programs (e.g., billing/rating replacement, source-of-truth migration, order-to-cash automation) - Technical depth in **distributed systems** and **large-scale data pipelines** (correctness, idempotency, reconciliation, data lineage) - Fluency in **order-to-cash and finance concepts** (pricing/discounting, contracts, revenue recognition, invoicing, month-end close, SOX controls) - Strong **product judgment** and ability to shape requirements and make build-vs-buy decisions - Clear communication to executives; influence peers across Product, Finance, IT, and GTM - Experience scaling organizations quickly while maintaining a high hiring bar and developing strong leaders - **BS** in CS or related field (MS preferred); Kafka, Apache Spark, Delta Lake, and/or cloud (AWS/Azure/GCP) are a plus **Why this role** Run the engine behind revenue for one of the fastest-growing data and AI companies.
