About this role
**Senior Staff Software Engineer, Android & IoT — PatientPoint** **Location:** Remote within the United States **Travel Requirements:** 2–4 times a year ## Job Summary The Senior Staff Engineer on the Ops Portal team is a technical anchor at the intersection of field operations and software engineering. You’ll serve as the Engineering Lead within the product trio, owning the technical direction and architecture of the tools Field, DS, and Client Operations rely on daily: - **Ops Portal** - **Device Configurator Application (DCA)** - **Unified Device Diagnostics (UDD)** — an AI agent platform that collects device data and diagnoses issues across the fleet This is a hands-on role with broad scope across three products and the shared Android device platform. You’ll write production code, sign off on the team’s highest-risk changes, and shape what gets built alongside the Product Lead and Design Lead—bringing Android, IoT, and AI agent expertise to PatientPoint’s Engineering Architecture Group. ## What You Will Do - Own technical direction for **Ops Portal, DCA, and UDD**: architecture, standards, and release cadence - Stay hands-on: write production code in **Kotlin, Python, and Node.js**; review work across **React**, **serverless backend**, and **Android/iOS apps** - Partner with Product & Design from discovery through planning; assess feasibility, constraints, capacity, and sequencing risks - Architect and build services/APIs for **real-time device communication** and **remote command & control** on **AWS IoT Core + MQTT**, **serverless AWS** (Lambda, API Gateway, Cognito), and **Terraform** - Lead the evolution of **UDD** and the **Ops AI assistant** using **AWS Bedrock** with tool use over **MCP**, human-in-the-loop controls, and evals—moving from reactive troubleshooting toward proactive, self-healing operations - Own change safety for the fleet: sign off on highest-risk changes (e.g., bulk updates to tens of thousands of devices, provisioning, and anything that lets AI act on a device) with staged rollouts and tested rollbacks - Hold the security bar: authentication/authorization, secrets management, and ensuring PHI doesn’t end up in logs, screenshots, or LLM output - Work with other device teams sharing the Android codebase (core libraries, DMM agent, fleet deployment tooling) so changes land safely - Ensure the product is instrumented and observable: usage metrics, error tracking, and performance monitoring - Engage with the Architecture Group: submit RFCs, uphold org standards, and lead R&D/POCs in AI-assisted diagnostics, self-healing workflows, and next-gen provisioning - Support story breakdowns, design sessions, and PR reviews; mentor engineers and raise technical capability ## What We Need - **10+ years** of software engineering experience building and running production systems - Strong backend proficiency in **Kotlin and/or Python**; building reliable services and APIs - Hands-on experience with **Android device fleets** (Android app/system dev such as AOSP/APK deployment/ADB, telemetry, remote command & control, provisioning) - Deep **AWS** experience: **AWS IoT Core + MQTT**, serverless (**Lambda, API Gateway, Cognito**), and **Terraform** - Experience building **AI agent systems**: LLM tool use (MCP or equivalent), guardrails, and evals - Prior experience as a **technical/engineering lead** on a product team (owning architecture direction, setting standards, partnering with product/design, unblocking others) - P
