## Sr. Software Engineer (EHR Integration Team) ### Position Summary Natera is building apps and services that run inside the clinician’s EHR. This is a hands-on role where you will build **SMART on FHIR** apps that launch from **Epic, Oracle Health (Cerner), and other EHRs**, along with the **FHIR services and data model** behind them and **CDS Hooks** services that bring Natera ordering and results into the provider workflow. You’ll work in a small team with product and the wider EHR integration group, handling patient data under **HIPAA**. ### Primary Responsibilities - Build and ship **SMART on FHIR apps** (EHR launch + standalone launch), including **OAuth 2.0 with PKCE**, backend authorization, scopes, and token handling. - Design and build server-side services: **FHIR R4 APIs**, mapping to internal data models, and implementing **profiles and extensions**. - Build **CDS Hooks** services with **prefetch** that respond within EHR time limits. - Take apps through **EHR vendor onboarding and go-live** (starting with **Epic**—Vendor Services and Showroom—then **Oracle Health** and others), partnering with health system IT for build and testing. - Handle **PHI correctly** in storage, caching, logging, and tracing (minimum necessary data, encryption, audit trails, **no PHI in logs**). - Work with **HL7 v2** and interface engine flows where needed. - Write design docs, review code, and mentor engineers. - Participate in **on-call** for what you ship. - Complete required **HIPAA/PHI privacy**, compliance, and security training within the first **30 days** of hire and maintain ongoing training status. ### Qualifications - BS in computer science (or related field) or equivalent experience. - **6+ years** of software development, including **at least 3** EHR integrations in production. - Hands-on **SMART on FHIR** experience (built and shipped an app that launches inside an EHR). - Strong **FHIR R4** skills: resource modeling, search, and terminology (LOINC, SNOMED, ICD-10). - Production go-live experience with **Epic**; **Oracle Health (Cerner)**, athenahealth, MEDITECH, or others is a plus. - Backend services experience in **Java and Spring Boot** (or similar) on **AWS**. - Experience handling **PHI under HIPAA** in production. - Clear communication with clinicians, health system IT, and product. ### Nice to Have - **CDS Hooks** in production. - Epic Showroom listing or an app built in the Oracle Health code console. - Lab orders/results experience (ServiceRequest, DiagnosticReport, Observation) and **HL7 v2 ORM/ORU**. - **FHIR Subscriptions** and **Bulk FHIR**. - Interface engines such as **Mirth, Rhapsody, or Cloverleaf**. - **React** and **TypeScript** for in-EHR user interfaces. - **USCDI**, **Da Vinci** implementation guides, or **ONC certification** work. ### Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities - **FHIR R4**, SMART App Launch, **OAuth 2.0 / OIDC**, **CDS Hooks** - **Java** and **Spring Boot**; REST and event-driven microservices - **AWS** services (SQS, S3, SNS, Lambda) - Relational databases and SQL (preferably PostgreSQL or MySQL) - Docker, CI/CD, Linux fundamentals - React and TypeScript - Quality assurance mindset ### Additional Notes - Applicants must be authorized to work in the US **without current or future visa sponsorship**. - **Remote (USA)** - Pay range: **$125,000 – $156,300 USD** ### Company Overview (Natera) Natera is a global leader in **cell-free DNA (cfDNA)** testing, focused on oncology, women’s health, and org
