Chief Engineer, USMC, Air Defense
Anduril Industries · Huntsville, Alabama, United States; Irvine, California, United States; Seattle, Washington, United States; Washington, District of Columbia, United States
About this role
**Anduril Industries — Chief Engineer (USMC, Air Defense)** ## About the Team Anduril’s Air Defense team develops, integrates, and fields autonomous systems that detect, track, and defeat threats in the sky—while keeping operators in control of engagement decisions. The team brings together Roadrunner, Sentry, Anvil, Pulsar, and Wisp with existing and third-party sensors and effectors through Lattice to deliver a software-enabled family of systems for the modern battlespace. ## About the Job Anduril runs two kinds of air defense programs for the U.S. Marine Corps: - **Counter-UAS program of record** (defends Marine Corps installations in the U.S. and overseas) - **Organic counter-UAS** for Marine maneuver forces across dismounted, mounted, and expeditionary formations (selected via competitive white papers, government demonstrations, and fly-offs) As **Chief Engineer**, you are the **single technical authority** across both programs. You own the architecture and technical performance of everything Anduril delivers or proposes to the Marine Corps—our sensors and effectors, integrated third-party/government-furnished systems, and the networks and command-and-control connecting them. ## What You’ll Do - **Portfolio technical authority:** Own system architecture, integration strategy, fielding readiness, and sustainment outcomes across installation and maneuver programs. Set the technical baseline, chair design reviews, and make decisions that keep schedule and engineering aligned. - **Fielded baseline:** Maintain the engineering baseline across deployed sites as configurations transition to next-generation sensor/compute. Lead engineering change and configuration management so hardware, software, and documentation agree at every site. - **Maneuver architecture:** Translate Marine Corps operational concepts into systems Marines can carry, mount, or set up and trust. Define interfaces to existing command-and-control and effectors; own the technical case through demonstrations and fly-offs. - **Technical maturity:** Review what product teams and business development plan to show customers. Clearly communicate what works today, what needs engineering sprints, and what isn’t ready—aligning customer commitments with engineering reality. - **Field performance and recovery:** Define verification/qualification approach and decide readiness to ship/demonstrate. Lead recovery when fielded sites degrade, including overseas sites with host-nation approvals. - **Customer technical authority:** Represent Anduril’s engineering position to the Marine Corps program office, test & evaluation community, and authorities approving safety, cybersecurity, and fielding. - **Growth:** Partner with business development and program management on pursuit technical content (white papers, RFIs, ROM estimates, proposals) and write the basis of estimate. ## Required Qualifications - Engineering/science/technical degree (or equivalent practical experience) - **10+ years** of systems or engineering experience with a track record of technical ownership on fielded systems - End-to-end technical accountability for whether a delivered system worked operationally - Ownership of architecture, interface set, and verification approach for a program/portfolio delivered to a U.S. defense customer - Ability to carry technical authority across teams that don’t report to you; brief senior technical and customer leadership directly - Ability to negotiate requirements/deviations/acce
