**Elastic — Senior Go/Kubernetes Engineer (Core/Infra) — Elasticsearch** ## About the role Elastic, the Search AI Company, helps people find answers in real time using all their data at scale. The Elastic Search AI Platform (used by 50%+ of the Fortune 500) combines search precision with AI intelligence to accelerate what matters. We’re looking for a **Senior Kubernetes/Go Engineer** to join our **Elasticsearch** team. You’ll help ensure shared platform functionality is **easy to use, performant, maintainable, and secure**. The team builds foundational infrastructure and shared capabilities that enable engineers to develop, extend, and support Elasticsearch—owning common functionality like **services, settings, and scripting**, and enabling extensibility via **plugins** and the **Painless** scripting language. The team also improves **observability** (logging/telemetry) and owns **orchestration for Serverless Elasticsearch**, **CI/CD workflows**, and delivery across **serverless, cloud, and on-prem**. You’ll be a strong individual contributor and also help **lead cross-team projects**, with excellent design skills and the ability to work close to the metal while communicating clearly across collaborators. ## What you will be doing - Design, build, and evolve distributed systems that orchestrate and manage **Serverless Elasticsearch** across cloud providers - Contribute to large, impactful projects that evolve Elasticsearch core infrastructure - Own **Kubernetes orchestration** of Elasticsearch clusters in cloud - Improve developer productivity via automation opportunities and integrating agentic apps into development workflows - Design and implement new **horizontally-scalable** features and APIs in Elasticsearch - Solve difficult issues (e.g., performance/concurrency) and propose solutions - Improve operations and observability for Elasticsearch cloud systems - Collaborate in the open with the ES team, Elastic users, and other open source projects - Support support engineers with the hardest problems - Own operational investigations end-to-end until performance/stability issues are resolved ## What you bring - Strong **Go** skills (concurrency primitives like goroutines/channels/sync/context, idiomatic error handling, and **generics**). Experience building **Kubernetes controllers** (controller-runtime, client-go) is a plus - Hands-on experience with **containers** and **Kubernetes** - Ability to craft **APIs** and reason through tradeoffs - Proficiency with **algorithms and data structures** - Experience leading large-scale projects across engineering teams - Willingness to dive into new issues and ask for help when needed - Ability to own projects end-to-end (technical design + working with others to deliver components) - Proven track record using **AI** to accelerate development, debug complex systems, and optimize code—while still owning outcomes - Ability to collaborate across functions/teams and shift focus based on business priorities - Ability to work autonomously and drive decisions/results in a distributed team using asynchronous, direct, transparent communication ## Bonus points - Experience with **Java** and standard Java data structures/concurrency constructs - Knowledge of **JDK internals** (modules, Java memory model, garbage collection, caching, etc.) - Hands-on experience with **CI/CD** systems and practices (Buildkite, Argo CD, GitOps, etc.) - Knowledge of Java build tools (Gradle, Maven, etc.), with preference
