## About the Team Financial Engineering (FinEng) builds the financial systems behind ChatGPT, Codex, and OpenAI’s API platform—helping people, developers, and businesses buy, use, and pay with confidence. You’ll work on systems that support everything from individual subscriptions to usage-based billing and complex enterprise agreements, including: - Product catalogs, SKUs, and bundles - Workspaces, entitlements, and usage metering - Payments, product access, and financial records consistency across systems ## What You’ll Do In this Staff+ Backend Engineer role, you will: - Design and build systems for purchasing, payments, subscriptions, and billing across OpenAI products and global markets - Build product catalogs, SKUs, and bundles to help product teams launch and evolve offerings - Develop workspace and entitlement systems that connect purchases/subscriptions to product access - Ensure charges and product access remain correct under retries, late updates, and downstream failures - Build metering systems, data pipelines, and APIs to turn usage into accurate bills and traceable records - Create reusable building blocks so teams can launch new pricing and payment options without rebuilding foundations - Make complex financial workflows simple for customers and internal teams using feedback and experiments - Scale and evolve live systems while protecting customer access, financial accuracy, performance, and security - Own problems end-to-end—from early design through launch and operations—partnering with product, design, finance, and other engineering teams ## Nice to Have - Experience with payments, subscriptions, pricing, billing, or other customer purchase/revenue systems - Experience with product catalogs, packaging/bundles, workspace management, entitlements, or usage metering - Experience building financial/transaction systems at scale, ensuring cross-system record correctness, or supporting compliance/audits ## About OpenAI OpenAI is an AI research and deployment company focused on ensuring general-purpose AI benefits all of humanity.
