Toast pairs deep restaurant industry understanding with cloud-based software and restaurant-grade hardware to deliver an intuitive all-in-one platform. ### About the role Fintech at Toast powers one of the most critical parts of the Toast infrastructure: processing payments on behalf of restaurants and ensuring they’re paid in a timely manner. This role will help build Toast’s unified payment processing solution—an integrated service for payment acceptance across channels, supporting a configurable enterprise approach and a build-once, available-to-all strategy for existing and emerging payment methods. ### Responsibilities - Design, build, and deliver features for Toast’s payments products - Develop and implement automated test suites to ensure high-quality code shipped to customers - Roll out features to customers, including monitoring for success - Collaborate with UX and PM on feature definition and design - Partner with a wide array of teams across Toast - Work with experienced engineers on design and code review ### Requirements - 2+ years of experience designing and implementing robust backend services using **Kotlin** - Proven ability to develop scalable and secure APIs integrating with internal/external systems - Knowledge of API lifecycle management best practices (versioning, documentation, deprecation strategies) - Proficiency with Kotlin-specific frameworks and libraries for backend development - Demonstrated experience with **microservices architecture** and **containerization** technologies ### Nice to haves - Proficiency in **DynamoDB** - Kotlin (or Java and willing to learn Kotlin) and Kotlin-specific frameworks/libraries - Familiarity with AI-augmented development workflows and tools (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Codex, or similar) ### AI at Toast (Hiring) Toast uses AI tools to support recruiters and interviewers (e.g., note-taking, summarization, and interview documentation).
