About this role

**Human Interest — Senior Software Engineer (Mobile)** Human Interest is on a mission to ensure that people in all lines of work have access to retirement benefits. More than half of working Americans aren’t saving enough for their future—often because their employer doesn’t offer a retirement plan. Human Interest helps small and medium-sized businesses offer employees a path to financial independence through retirement savings. **About the role** This is a high-impact, hands-on engineering role building the future of our mobile app experience. As a Senior Software Engineer on our Mobile team, you’ll design, build, and ship features millions of employees and plan administrators rely on—while helping set the technical foundation for mobile engineering at Human Interest. This is a rare greenfield opportunity. As a founding engineer, you’ll have a blank slate across pipelines, release process, QA, telemetry, and native-vs-cross-platform architecture—so you can shape patterns from day one. You’ll partner with your engineering manager, Product, and Design, owning outcomes that matter: app store ratings, crash-free sessions, and reliable delivery. You’ll also leverage AI to build: as the architect and decision-maker, you’ll direct AI coding agents across the development lifecycle and help shape the team’s agentic workflows—pairing speed with an app that is fast, secure, accessible, and built to last. **What you get to do every day** - Build a polished experience across iOS and Android (native or cross-platform) to help employees understand and grow their retirement savings, plus future experiences for 401(k) plan admins. - Architect a modern, modular codebase from scratch with modern concurrency, clean dependency management, and testability—no legacy constraints. - Use AI coding agents as a core part of how you build, directing them across the development lifecycle and shaping the team’s agentic workflows and quality bar. - Solve hard fintech problems on mobile: accurate, real-time balances; secure authentication and biometrics; and protection of sensitive financial data. - Own how we ship: CI/CD, phased App Store and Play Store rollouts, feature flags, and automated UI testing—tracking success via crash-free rates and app ratings. - Collaborate closely with Design on animations and haptics, data visualization, and accessibility—so saving for retirement feels as good as any consumer app. - Partner with backend engineers on API contracts and backend-driven UI, helping define our native and cross-platform direction. **What you bring to the role** **Experience** - 5+ years building and maintaining production software, including shipping and owning consumer mobile apps through multiple App Store and Play Store release cycles. - Deep expertise in native mobile (Swift/SwiftUI or Kotlin/Jetpack Compose) or cross-platform (React Native, Flutter, Kotlin Multiplatform), with strong opinions on architecture, performance, and testing. - Experience owning features end to end (technical design through release and iteration) in a collaborative, cross-functional environment. - 0 → 1 mobile experience is a plus. - Fintech, security-sensitive applications, or regulated domains is a plus. **AI-Augmented Engineering** - Hands-on, regular use of agentic coding tools (e.g., Codex, Claude Code, Cursor) on production work. - Sound judgment on where AI helps vs. where it doesn’t, and a habit of keeping agent-generated code correct, secure, and well-tested. **
