About this role

**SpaceX — Propulsion Software Engineer (Falcon Engineering)** SpaceX is developing the technologies to enable human life on Mars. The Falcon Engineering team delivers Falcon and its payloads to orbit rapidly and reliably. As a **Propulsion Software Engineer**, you enable the long-term success of Falcon and its Merlin engines by improving hardware reliability and removing recurring, time-consuming work from engineers. You’ll build **agentic AI systems**, **MCP servers**, **RAG-based search**, and **traditional automation** where it’s the right solution. You’ll own problems end-to-end: scoping with engineers, rolling out solutions, measuring time saved, and maintaining tools as vehicles and processes evolve. You’ll work closely with engineers and bring hands-on hardware experience (engine test, fluid systems, or structures) so the tools you build reflect how hardware behaves and fails. You’ll also support **root cause analysis** for anomaly resolution with data- and model-driven insights for high-consequence decisions. --- **Responsibilities** - Partner with Falcon and Merlin hardware engineering teams to identify manual, repetitive, and error-prone work and scope tools to automate it - Build automation and data pipelines to process large volumes of engineering data (telemetry, hardware design databases, configuration files, manufacturing and test records) to streamline review, flag anomalies, and surface insights - Develop agentic AI systems, multi-agent workflows, and MCP servers so engineers can query, analyze, and act across internal systems - Build internal web dashboards for mission status, open work, and data review results - Thoroughly test and validate tools (including evaluating AI outputs against known-good results) for flight-critical environments - Support anomaly resolution by working directly with engineers across Falcon sub-components to improve time-to-insight - Participate in and lead architecture, design, and code reviews - Collaborate across the company to extend and improve interoperability among existing tools --- **Basic Qualifications** - Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, math, or physics; **or** 4+ years of professional experience in hardware engineering or engineering automation in lieu of a degree - 1+ years of software development experience in **Python, C/C++, or similar**, focused on automation tools or AI integrations (professional and personal projects acceptable) - 1+ years of hands-on experience with engines, fluid systems, or structural hardware in design, test, or operations (professional, academic, and student team projects acceptable)
