About this role

## Software Engineer, Quality & Automation ### About Fieldguide Fieldguide is building a new standard of trust for global commerce and capital markets by automating and streamlining assurance and audit work—especially in **cybersecurity, privacy, and financial audits**. We build software for the people who enable trust between businesses. We’re based in **San Francisco, CA**, and backed by **Goldman Sachs Alternatives, Bessemer Venture Partners, 8VC, Floodgate, Y Combinator**, and more. Over **50 of the top 100** accounting and consulting firms trust Fieldguide for mission-critical work. --- ### Role Summary This role owns **quality and automation** for **large enterprise deployments**. You’ll work with customers and internal engineering to build a world-class QA function from an **agent-first** lens. You’ll help grow our quality and automation capacity using **agentic tooling** to handle repetitive work like **finding, reproducing, and resolving issues**, strengthening internal testing, and keeping our **SaaS and PaaS environments consistent**. We’re hiring across all levels—your scope and seniority will be calibrated during interviews. --- ### What You’ll Own - **Environment consistency** across SaaS and PaaS so customer behavior matches everywhere and configuration drift doesn’t become a defect - Build **agentic automation** for bug handling (triage, reproduction, routing) that runs without a human in the middle - Use agentic tools to **resolve bugs directly**, shipping fixes instead of filing tickets and waiting - Run **bug bashes** on new features and make the practice repeatable so other teams adopt it - Own **bug reporting and communication**: severity-weighted trends, hotspots, and a trusted read on where quality is heading - Work with customers to integrate into their processes and improve how issues are reported, fixes are validated, and readiness is determined - Improve **internal automated testing**: coverage where it matters, strong CI signal, and less flake - Close the loop from customer-reported issues back to the **test/environment checks** that would have caught them - Support evaluation efforts by creating and curating **relevant datasets** for agent quality --- ### Who You Are (All Levels) - An engineer who **fixes what you find**—strong in the codebase and eager to ship fixes - **AI-native** in your approach: agentic tooling is core leverage for the unglamorous parts of quality, used on real work - Thinks in **trends, hotspots, and severity** (not anecdotes) and can explain a clear story from a messy backlog - Strong with customers: can sit with an enterprise user, understand their process, and be the person they trust to resolve issues - Comfortable across the stack and environments—application code, CI, and deployment differences - Highly collaborative across engineering, PM, support, and customer-facing teams - High ownership and comfortable with ambiguity (no predefined list of what to test or automate first) - Can internalize a hard domain quickly—may not know audit/auditor workflows yet, but can learn what “broken” means --- ### Higher-Level Responsibilities **Senior level (may include):** - Own the customer quality experience end to end, including reporting and communication - Set the agentic automation strategy for bug handling (where automation pays vs. where it doesn’t) - Define what **environment parity** means across SaaS and PaaS and drive the work - Collaborate with PMs and engineering leads
